Playing tourist in Seine Saint Denis

Today on the blog, I would like to introduce you to the Seine Saint Denis Tourisme website, which, in my opinion, is a real Ali Baba’s cave. You can find everything there, and especially some great tips and deals! In fact, the site offers a huge number of visits, walks, and events, all very varied in terms of activities and themes, and the cherry on top is that these visits are really inexpensive.

For me, the primary appeal of the activities offered by Seine-Saint-Denis Tourisme is the idea that there are rare and unique things to discover in the Ile-de-France region (and in all its departments) and that you don’t always need to travel many miles to get a change of scenery and/or discover new cultures.

And I can’t say it enough, yes, you can (and you should!) play tourist in your own city, in your own region; it is always extremely enriching! In short, we discover in the 93 a tourism experienced “differently”: participatory, authentic, unusual, and that is really the kind of initiative I want to highlight and encourage.

So, I tested 2 of the activities offered by the site for you:

Visiting the Tamil communities in La Courneuve

This visit to the Tamil communities in La Courneuve was guided by Raphaëlle Gras from the Anardana association, whose activities revolve around Indian cuisine.

This 2-hour walk, entitled “The Road to India in La Courneuve“, allows for an encounter with the communities, an exchange with shopkeepers, and ends with a tasting of Punjabi snacks in an Indian restaurant in the Place du 8 mai 1945 neighborhood.

Visiting the Académie Fratellini

This visit to the Académie Fratellini (located in Saint-Denis) was organized as part of the 10th anniversary of the Grand Chapiteau (Big Top). On the afternoon’s program: a presentation of the site’s history and a quick tour behind the scenes, followed by the show “Le Vide Essai #6” under the famous Grand Chapiteau.

I pass by the Big Top very often because I have friends who really live in the area, and yet it was my first time stepping inside the Academy. But honestly, it’s a place worth checking out, both for its history and the quality of the artists in residence there!

For your information, a 2nd date is announced in December for the Fratellini Circus with a backstage tour followed by the show, titled “Backstage and Christmas Circus at the Académie Fratellini”.

I hope this short article has made you want to visit and discover a little more about this Seine Saint Denis department, if you haven’t already, because it is truly rich in places to visit and cultures to discover.
