I first came to Luxembourg on my own in 2015, then we went back in April 2025 with my favorite photographer, for a stay of about a week organized with the Luxembourg Tourist Office. Between these two trips, I tested four hotels with very different styles: a design hotel in Kirchberg, a green hideaway in the Belair district, a gallery hotel right in the center and a practical option near the airport.

My tested hotels in Luxembourg
The capital is compact and most of the sights in the center can be visited on foot. To choose your neighborhood, here are a few pointers: the Ville-Haute (Upper Town) is home to the historic center, shops and restaurants; Kirchberg hosts the business district and several European institutions, and it’s linked to the center by tram; Belair is a quieter residential district, a fifteen-minute walk from the center. Since March 2025, the tram also connects the central station to Findel airport.
The good deal: public transport (buses, trams and trains, except first class) is completely free throughout the country, which makes a hotel slightly outside the center a perfectly good option.

Mama Shelter Luxembourg
You know we’re big fans of this hotel brand, and we’ve already tried quite a few of their addresses in France (Rennes, Marseille, Bordeaux…). This was our first time in one of their hotels abroad, and Mama Shelter Luxembourg is true to the group’s style: quirky, colorful design, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and, as is often the case, a lively rooftop, perfect for a drink with a breathtaking view over the city.
The hotel is located in the Kirchberg district (the business district and home to several European Union institutions). It’s well served by the tram, free like all public transport in the country, so you can get to the city center quickly and easily.
As always, our room was stylish and functional, with high-quality bedding (as in all of the group’s hotels, by the way). We also always appreciate the personal welcome from the Mama Shelter teams, and this time we even got our couple photo stuck on a mirror in our room! Finally, Mama Shelter hotels are also known for their breakfast buffet and the quality of its products, and personally I’m a fan of their juice extractor, which I use in every one of their hotels.

Hôtel Parc Belair
Located in the heart of the residential district of Belair, right next to Merl Park, Hôtel Parc Belair is less than a 15-minute walk from the city center, and it’s also easy to reach by bus, which stops right in front of the hotel. It’s a good option if you’re looking for a green setting. The hotel belongs to the Goeres Hotels group.
We had a small park-side room with a mini balcony, and it was extremely quiet and relaxing.

Hôtel Parc Belair ☆☆☆☆

Getting there: bus to the Merl Parc stop, in front of the hotel, or about a fifteen-minute walk from the center

Hôtel Simoncini
On my first trip in 2015, I stayed at Hôtel Simoncini, a really lovely design hotel perfectly located in the center of Luxembourg, with a contemporary art gallery next to the building. This gallery hotel has 35 rooms and offers an art trail across its 6 floors, where you can discover the works scattered throughout the building.
One downside, though: I found the neighborhood very noisy and had to sleep with the window closed despite the heat, because of the noise. So if you’re planning a lie-in, forget it…

Hôtel Simoncini

Rates: around €150 to €200 per night for a double room, buffet breakfast included (according to the tourist office, varies by date)
Parking: secure underground car park 50 m from Place d’Armes, €25 per day

Légère Hotel Luxembourg
If you have an early-morning flight or are arriving late, the Légère Hotel Luxembourg, a 4-star hotel close to the airport (6 km to be precise), can be a very practical option. It’s about 15 km from Luxembourg City and easy to reach by bus (see the route in the info box below). The hotel has 156 rooms and suites and was completely renovated in 2018.
The bedding is very comfortable, and we slept in a 37 m² “Residence Room”, very spacious and quiet. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to make the most of it, but the hotel also has a wellness area with a gym and saunas.
The hotel also has an on-site restaurant, Faces Restaurant & Bar, which saves you from going out again once you’ve checked in. The menu offers a varied selection of regional dishes and, for our part, that evening we chose the chef’s suggestions: a corn-fed chicken supreme stuffed with prunes (€26) and white asparagus with Black Forest ham (€24). You can order à la carte, but the restaurant also offered a daily buffet menu at €25 when we were there.

Légère Hotel Luxembourg ☆☆☆☆
11 rue Gabriel Lippmann, Parc d’Activité Syrdall, L-5365 Munsbach
Rates: rooms from around €100 per night (varies by season and day)
Getting to the city center: bus 324 from the stop about 250 m from the hotel to Kirchberg, Gare Luxexpo (about ten minutes), then the tram to the center
Parking: underground (€20 per day, €10 at weekends) and a few free outdoor spaces
Where to stay in Luxembourg: 2 more places I spotted
To round off my selection, here are two places I spotted but haven’t tested: a small charming guesthouse in the Grund and a practical aparthotel near the station. I’m only sharing what I was able to check.

La Pipistrelle
I haven’t stayed at La Pipistrelle, but this small address in the Grund caught my eye if you prefer a charming guesthouse to a classic hotel. This B&B has only four suites, one per floor, in a house with an 18th-century facade, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed district. Breakfast is served in a lounge carved into the rock, a former part of the fortress.
It’s rated 9.1/10 on Booking (more than 700 reviews). The suites are spread over four floors: worth bearing in mind if you’re traveling with heavy luggage, as I couldn’t find any mention of a lift.
La Pipistrelle
26 montée du Grund, L-1645 Luxembourg (Grund)
Rates: €265 to €335 per night, breakfast included (according to the official website)
Access: about 900 m from the central station

Maison Melu Gare
If you’re arriving by train or want more independence, Maison Melu Gare is a recent aparthotel 200 m from the central station, from where the tram serves the center, Kirchberg and the airport. The 22 to 46 m² lofts have a kitchenette and, for most of them, a balcony. There’s also a gym, a laundry room, a shared lounge and kitchen, and a small self-service grocery. It’s run by Gio Hospitality, the hotel branch of the Félix Giorgetti group.
Its Booking rating reaches 9.4/10, but based on only about thirty reviews in September 2026: a figure to take with some caution for now.
Maison Melu Gare
49 avenue de la Gare, L-1611 Luxembourg (Gare district)
Rates: from around €160 per night for an M loft (according to the official website)
Parking: paid, on request
