The 9th edition of the European Night of Museums, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, will take place this Saturday, May 18, 2013.

During this exceptional night, museums all over France and Europe will be unveiled by the light of the moon by opening their doors for free and offering a myriad of events.

See and revisit the greatest collections as well as the most unusual ones, dialogue with both classic and contemporary masterpieces, discover museums in a different way, and approach art without constraints… these are all perspectives offered to everyone by this night of possibilities.

On the agenda: thematic evenings, unexpected tours, sound and light shows, concerts, screenings, performances, and circuits will mark this night where participating museums will be accessible to visitors free of charge.

  • the musée du quai Branly takes its visitors into the world of new technologies for an exceptional weekend, to question the notions of network, web, and communication. On the agenda: workshop-tours, the creation of a collective work with artist Fred Chemama, collaborative practices, a performance by choreographer Alban Richard, fun and experimental guided tours are offered with original installations, tools, and innovative mediation devices to discover the museum’s collections in a new way and meet cultures from Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas

This creation, performed by dancer Flavie Hennion, will take place among the artworks, throughout the spaces of the artist’s house that shelters the Henner museum

  • Two festive music concerts at the Museum of Jewish Art and History with Alexis Kune, accordionist and founder of the group Les Mentsh

  • Guided tour of the UNESCO art collections and Headquarters buildings from 8:00 PM to midnight
  • Commentated tour to discover the hidden side of the Palais de Tokyo through Secret Palace tours. An exciting and dynamic back-and-forth between the architecture of the site and ongoing exhibitions, the cultural mediator will draw the visitor’s attention to the hidden details of the building and the secrets contained within certain artworks
  • Musée Guimet Poster: On the trail of the Mysterious Cities of Gold.On the trail of the mysterious Cities of Gold, an exhibition to discover as a family at the musée Guimet (national museum of Asian arts). The National Conservatory of Music and Dance and the Guimet museum are collaborating on a choreographic project in resonance with the space and major pieces of the museum’s permanent collections. Posing a new look at the works through movement, opening new places for perception and interpretation thanks to the work of the conservatory students, that is the invitation of this new Night of Museums
