Like last year, I’m continuing my series on free events to enjoy during a Parisian summer, and today it’s all about open-air film screenings.
I hope this 3-part guide will give you all the keys to a summer packed with events if you’re spending any part of the season in the capital.
With all these screenings, there’s no reason not to have a wonderful summer, cinematically speaking, especially since most of these events are free—just a little reminder in case…

La Villette Open-Air Cinema

From Wednesday, July 13 to Sunday, August 21, 2016, you can enjoy free screenings at nightfall in the capital’s largest open-air movie theater!
This open-air film festival offers a variety of themes with a series of 25 evenings dedicated to the “Dress code” theme.
You can choose to sit on lounge chairs with blankets available for rent (€7) for the occasion, or bring your own gear to get comfortably settled.
Below is a small (non-exhaustive) cinematic selection from MelleBonPlan:
- Romeo and Juliet by Franco Zeffirelli, Tuesday, July 26 (one of my mom’s favorite films)
- The Seven Year Itch by Billy Wilder, Sunday, July 24
- Starship Troopers by Paul Verhoeven, Friday, July 29
- The Band’s Visit by Eran Kolirin, Wednesday, August 3
- Like Father, Like Son by Hirokazu Kore-eda, Wednesday, August 10
- Wadjda by Haifa Al-Mansour, Thursday, August 11
- Fargo by Joel Coen, Thursday, August 18
- Ran by Akira Kurosawa, Friday, August 19
- Drive by Nicolas Winding Refn, Saturday, August 20
A very, very beautiful selection for this La Villette open-air cinema, and films that are essential to discover for some, or to re-watch with great pleasure for others… So I know what to do with my August evenings in Paris…
