Which hotel to choose in Bordeaux?

In Bordeaux, I really liked our room at FirstName. For the other places, I explain what we visited and what the article covers.

L’InterContinental Bordeaux: 5-star luxury facing the Opera House

This legendary Bordeaux hotel is housed in a historic private mansion in the city, built in 1789 by the architect Victor Louis. He is also the architect of the Bordeaux Opera, built 10 years earlier and standing opposite it in a mirror effect. The building’s transformation into a tourist hotel took place at the turn of the 19th century with the creation of a restaurant, and again in the early 20th century. After a long closure, the hotel reopened as a 5-star luxury hotel in 2007 following a renovation led by the famous interior designer Jacques Garcia. Today, the hotel comprises 7 distinct buildings.

We haven’t had the chance to sleep in this beautiful establishment yet, but we were able to visit it to discover its main features and spaces. In addition to the Boudoir de Léa and Le Bordeaux restaurant that I mentioned above, the hotel also features an incredible Guerlain Spa, a two-Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant, Le Pressoir d’Argent Gordon Ramsay, and a rooftop with a breathtaking view of the city (the perfect place for a drink with a view).

FirstName Bordeaux: a 4-star lifestyle hotel in Mériadeck

This 100% “feel good” lifestyle hotel is the first from this young brand. It is located in a building typical of the 60s/70s, emblematic of modernist architecture, in the Mériadeck district of Bordeaux. The project for this district was entrusted at the time to the architect Jean Royer according to the principles of “slab urbanism,” including the separation of pedestrian paths and automobile traffic. We really liked this hotel designed by the architect Nicolas Adnet of Studio MHNA. It offers 137 rooms and suites divided into 5 categories (Cocon, Cockpit, Tribe, Collector, and Firstroom). We stayed in a Cockpit room which offers a panoramic view of the city. If you aren’t staying at the hotel but want to come and discover this address, you can come and have a cocktail at the hotel bar, the Bada, which I told you about in the previous paragraph.

The great tip: on every floor of the hotel, there is a kitchenette with self-service products for guests, which we found really great!

The Mama Shelter Bordeaux: the trendy 3-star address in the historic center

You know that I really like Mama Shelter hotels; I have already told you about those in Marseille, Rennes, and Luxembourg in my articles on these cities. The Mama Shelter group represents 18 urban hotels across 15 cities and 9 countries. As in all the brand’s establishments, there are common features in all the hotels: a festive atmosphere (with DJ sets on weekends), a relaxed vibe, a restaurant within the hotel, and very good bedding in the rooms. Located in the historic center of Bordeaux, on the Place Saint-Christoly, the hotel notably offers a super trendy rooftop with a panoramic view of the surroundings.
