My favorite restaurants in the 17th arrondissement of Paris

In this article, I offer you a selection of my favorite restaurants located in the 17th arrondissement of Paris that we have had the opportunity to try with my favorite photographer, or that I have tested with my girlfriends. I obviously update this article regularly to add new addresses that I test over the years.

This address brings us back to basics with a lovely, traditional bistro where you feel right at home. At Le Petit Champerret, there is no fuss; you are greeted warmly by Alex, the owner, and on the plates, you will find comforting and well-executed French cuisine. On the menu: egg mayonnaise (€6.50) and homemade salmon gravlax (€12); for the main course, we had the hand-cut Charolais beef tartare with fries (€20) and the farm-raised yellow chicken with thyme jus (€18); for dessert, chocolate mousse (€8.50) and pistachio crème brûlée (€9). The prices are very fair, everything is homemade, the menu is presented on a chalkboard and changes regularly, the owner is welcoming, and you just want to come back! The simple pleasure of life’s little things.

This Parisian brasserie with its cheerful and colorful decor offers creative, fresh, and seasonal bistronomic cuisine. My recommendations: the signature cocktails and mocktails which are very good; for a starter, the meagre carpaccio with sesame oil, pomelo, and coriander (€19) and the trout gravlax with wasabi mousse (€14); for a main course, the fried octopus with tomato kefta and green pea cream (€27) and the beautiful XL burrata with cherry tomatoes (€20); for dessert, the Paris-Brest (€14).

This iconic 17th-arrondissement brasserie, which has been around since 1928, features an Art Deco setting and a timeless, elegant atmosphere. In the kitchen, chef Florian Breurec offers flavorful and comforting dishes made with seasonal products. My recommendations: for a starter, the salmon gravlax (€18) and the stracciatella with confit cherry tomatoes (€16); for a main course, the vitello tonnato (€26) or the gnocchi, which that day were served with peas and asparagus (€26); for dessert, the homemade craquelin choux pastry with tonka bean cream and white chocolate (€13). The establishment also offers a very nice selection of wines by the glass (prices between €8.50 and €12).

This Italian restaurant with very friendly service offers generous portions of cucina italiana. The specialty here is the pasta, which is made fresh in the restaurant every day. The decor is warm and colorful, and the address also offers a small street terrace during the summer season. My recommendations: for antipasti to share, the stracciatella and confit cherry tomatoes (€14); for a hearty salad, the Valentina with mozzarella and beef carpaccio; and the very generous homemade tiramisu (€10).

L’Escient is a lovely bistronomic restaurant with family history located in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. Indeed, it is the address of the Méchin family with Catherine (mother and wife) who is in the dining room serving, and Pierre and Claire (father-daughter duo) who are in the kitchen. It is a small address with a very simple look, but which, I must say, really impressed us with its culinary quality!

On the plate, you will find fine and inventive cuisine made from high-quality fresh ingredients with a subtle Asian inspiration that finds its way into some dishes. Both the father and daughter have worked with the greatest chefs, and it shows! The balance of the dishes is always successful, and there is always originality without going overboard with mixtures. The menu and dishes change very regularly according to the seasons and market arrivals.

To taste:

  • For starters, we tested the pan-fried hand-cut sausage with corn cream and chive oil, but also the marinated scallops with kaffir lime, ginger, and celery cream with coconut milk. Both starters (€12 each outside of menus) were very original, and I found the scallops to be melt-in-the-mouth and the marriage of flavors very balanced with a nice herbal touch.
  • Regarding wines, there is a short but extremely high-quality selection, and I must say that by following Catherine’s advice, we made some beautiful discoveries! Furthermore, her food and wine pairing advice was particularly successful.
  • For the main course, I highly recommend you taste one of the house specialties, the marinated beef (French origin) “crying tiger” style with vein-rice (€25 à la carte), which is truly succulent! And the quality of the meat and the cooking were truly remarkable!
  • For fish, I also really liked the meagre with yellow zucchini, figs, parmesan, and orange emulsion (€25 à la carte).
  • For dessert, I recommend you test the dark chocolate cream ‘cru Manjari’ with warm foam and organic Arabica coffee ice cream, which is truly delicious! In a fruitier version, the poached quince with organic Corsican clementine sorbet is also very good.
