L’Atelier Hubris was created by Benoît Chavanne, a former philosophy teacher (Hubris expressing the notion of excess in ancient Greek) to give free rein to his love for wine by creating a universe dedicated to tasting in the heart of the Buttes Chaumont.
This oenology enthusiast obtained his Sommelier Consultant diploma at the University of Suze la Rousse before creating his own company.
Hubris’ goal is to truly make oenological tasting a moment of pleasure, through creative workshops, led by Benoît Chavanne himself, initially for large companies and now also accessible to the general public.
These events take place in a beautiful former artist’s studio converted into a loft and scattered with antique items, as its owner is very sensitive to them.
Gourmet tastings, Wine Making courses, wine rallies, private online wine sales, themed evenings (3 times a year) and fine dinners around the greatest vintages, the Hubris team offers numerous wine-related events.
With a stock of 6,000 bottles, including 30% Grands Crus, Hubris has plenty to entice its clientele.
I had the chance to participate in one of these organoleptic tasting courses (and yes, I learned a new word that evening!) on November 16th.
During these 2 hours spent in the company of Benoît and the other guests (there were about fifteen of us), I learned to better understand wines and what I liked about them, so I could enjoy them even more.
Learning to guess the age or grape variety of a wine just by looking at its color, discovering the tasting cycle (eye, nose, mouth), recognizing the flavors that shape taste (salty / sweet / acidic / bitter)… in short, it was an exciting moment spent in a friendly and warm atmosphere!
Given the success of the courses already in place, Hubris has launched 2-hour tasting courses specifically dedicated to women since October (price €55 / person).
This new feminine, but not feminist, tasting is a wish of Benoît, following situations and testimonials from women eager to master the codes of a world that often remains masculine.
The great deal: Hubris offers a free spot for any group of 8 people or more.
Hubris also offers a box for wine lovers. The idea is simple: receive 2 bottles of different French or foreign wines every month, delivered to your home (France or abroad).
The subscription is very flexible as it can be taken individually or temporarily for 3, 6, or 12 months, according to your desires (a good gift idea with Christmas approaching).
Each discovery box therefore includes 2 bottles accompanied by the Hubris discovery sheet, mixing recipes, service tips, and tasting notes.
2 subscription ranges available:
- The Bronze discovery box for an easy discovery at €29 (delivery included)
- The Platinum discovery box for enlightened amateurs at €39 (delivery included)
