Niv’s, the bistro of the Batignolles

This beautiful spot in the Batignolles neighborhood is a quintessential Parisian bistro, complete with original hardwood floors, vintage tables, large bay windows, and a zinc bar.

Niv’s is a great landmark in the 17th arrondissement with a simple, cozy atmosphere where you feel right at home. The service is friendly and fuss-free, and there seem to be many regulars who frequent this neighborhood spot where food lovers from the area gather.

The establishment offers traditional cuisine with homemade recipes, all prepared with fresh products, which shines through in the restaurant’s short menu (always a good sign, as you know!), updated regularly according to the seasons.

As a starter, we really liked the Chioggia beet nem rolls with fresh goat cheese and citrus vinaigrette (€9); it was super fresh and tangy, a real success!

Another tasty starter, the soft-boiled egg with a pan-fried selection of oyster mushrooms in parsley and garlic, and Serrano ham chips (€9).

For the main course, we tried a true French bistro recipe: Coq au vin with tagliatelle (€18).

Pasta with braised beef cheeks, rich sauce and spring onions.

I also suggest you try the chicken fillets marinated in soy and sesame then pan-fried, served with heirloom vegetables (€16); it’s a dish I found very flavorful and surprising.

At the end of the meal, you absolutely must try the house’s signature dessert, the Pavlova. A meringue and fruit cake filled with mascarpone, wonderfully light and delicious. It was the perfect dish to end this lunch!

As for drinks, the wine list is carefully selected by the owner, with many organic wines, biodynamic wines, and even a natural wine without sulfites (price by the glass between €4 and €6.20). It is also composed exclusively of small independent producers, which I think is important to point out.

Great deal: the market menu every lunch with starter + main or main + dessert for €15

Bonus: a terrace that allows you to bask in the sun on sunny days (so, from now on, apparently!)
