An evening at the Kube Hôtel Paris

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

I have visited the Kube Hôtel Paris several times, tucked away in a small street in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. This 4-star boutique hotel from the Machefert group also features a restaurant and the famous Ice Bar on-site. In this article, I’d like to share with you the various evenings we spent with my favorite photographer at this hotel located in the 18th, in the heart of the popular La Chapelle district. If you visit, I suggest doing as we did: have a drink at the Ice Bar first, then continue your evening with dinner at the hotel restaurant.

The Ice Bar at the Kube Hôtel

As the name suggests, this is the capital’s only Ice Bar where you can enjoy chilled cocktails while wearing a down jacket in -22°C temperatures. A super original experience that I really recommend trying at least once. At the very beginning, you might think -22°C is bearable, but after 25 minutes, I can assure you that you really start to feel the cold, and it’s time to leave! It is better to leave the premises in stages, as the thermal shock is quite intense.

Inside the Ice Bar at the moment, the decor has a Cold War Soviet vibe, including a military jeep made of ice, and the cocktails are served in glass vials. The really funny thing is that due to the cold, you don’t taste the alcohol in the cocktails at all; it feels like you’re drinking nothing, but be careful because once you leave the Ice Bar, the effects of the alcohol hit you all at once!

Practical Information:

  • Down jackets are provided by the establishment, however, we were not given gloves. Personally, I strongly recommend that you bring your own because that is what becomes truly unbearable after a while (especially when you are holding an ice glass in your hands).
  • It is imperative to book your time slot and not arrive late, as you only have 25 minutes inside the Ice Bar (it’s difficult to stay longer, I assure you).

The Sève Restaurant at the Kube Hôtel

After the Ice Bar experience, the perfect follow-up is obviously to go and recover from your emotions at the hotel restaurant. Until April 2023, the restaurant was called l’Après and the space, especially the decor, was inspired by a post-apocalyptic pitch: after a catastrophe (a bit like The Walking Dead, a series I love), we are stuck in 1959, and vegetation has taken over this private mansion. I loved the period furniture and the urban jungle decor of the place. Even the menu was printed on crumpled paper, like something “that had just been thrown in the trash.” You can see some photos of l’Après below.

Since 2023, the venue has become Sève, a festive restaurant centered around plants, but not only… You can find floral cocktails that highlight herbs, aromatic plants, and flowers (and here you will better taste their flavors than in the Ice Bar). As for food, there are high-quality tapas-style sharing plates with options for vegetarians, as well as for meat lovers.

Regarding decor, the space has kept the botanical and jungle atmosphere that I loved, with wood and marble furniture, velvet benches, and ottomans. The venue also hosts concerts and DJ sets in the evenings, from Tuesday to Saturday.

To taste: pea hummus (€9), roasted cauliflower with plant-based yogurt sauce and cilantro (€11), beef fillet aged 14 days and house-smoked (€18), or these delicious nettle gnocchi with basil pistou (€14). For dessert, I recommend the pear infused with rosemary and Espelette pepper (€11).
