La Friterie du Pont-Neuf in Paris

Right now in Paris (and elsewhere, I imagine), there is a trend for concepts featuring a single ingredient or dish, offered in unusual varieties or simply made with a genuine commitment to quality (choice of ingredients, production technique) to achieve the best possible product (within its category, of course). This is in line with the desire we all have right now, I think, to consume better and more ethically…

This is the case for the brand Friterie Pont-Neuf (which today has two Parisian locations, one near Gare de l’Est and the other near the Grands Boulevards), which offers high-quality French fries.

For our part, we tested the small corner shop installed near Gare de l’Est. The place is very small and there is little room to sit down as you can see in the photos, but the concept is more about ordering a few trays to go enjoy elsewhere or outside during sunny days.

Naturally, to accompany your fries, the house also offers a few other quality products to complete your meal, notably charcuterie from the Metzger butcher shop (Paris ham and pastrami).

Must try:

  • The fries obviously, which are truly very good, made from Normandy potatoes and double-fried to ensure crispiness on the outside and tenderness on the inside: €3.70 for the small tray and €6.50 for the large one (don’t miss the super house-made sauces that accompany them; I recommend trying the squid ink mayonnaise, for example).

  • As a side, we tried the gray shrimp croquettes (€7), as well as the authentic Paris ham chiffonade (€5) or the fish fritters, Fish & Chips style (€6).

Pont-Neuf fried meatballs with arugula and a lemon wedge in a striped container.

  • On the drinks side, I recommend trying a BapBap craft beer (€4.90) or a Patrick Font non-alcoholic juice.
