It is quite rare for me to discover nice restaurants near my workplace, in the 13th arrondissement towards the Gobelins. I had already told you about a good French cuisine address that I really like near Place d’Italie, l’Avant-Goût.
Today, it is a Chinese gastronomy restaurant that I am introducing to you, specializing in the cuisine of Sichuan and Shanghai, two recognized gastronomic regions in China. It is obviously a bit in harmony with the arrondissement, because we are quite close (but not quite, though!) to the Asian district and its numerous restaurants.
Especially since this neighborhood actually teems with restaurants focused on Vietnamese, Laotian, or even Cambodian cuisine, obviously linked to the populations that settled in the neighborhood starting in the 70s.
0 d’Attente, meanwhile, is a true Chinese gastronomy restaurant and the chef, Cao, originally from Shanghai, has been specializing in Sichuan and Shanghai gastronomy for over 30 years. He has also received several awards recognizing the quality of his dishes.
The menu therefore offers around a hundred Chinese dishes, twenty of which are unique in France.
A bit of history:
- Sichuan specialties date back to the Qin dynasty (221 BC) and developed until the Song era (960 AD). This cuisine is renowned for its spicy dishes.
- Shanghai specialties date back to the Jin dynasty (265 AD) and developed during the Qing dynasty. They are characterized by thick soups, sauces, and sweet dishes.
Must try:
- Que Chao, fried noodles with seafood and mixed vegetables (€13.80).
- Steamed basket with 4 small “Shanghai style” pork-stuffed buns.
- Shou Si Jiao Ma Ji, a super refreshing chicken salad (€8.80).
- Tang Cu Li Ji, a dish made with pork loin in sweet and sour sauce (€10.80).
- For dessert, the restaurant offers very fresh and light creations: the B & W, sesame mousse, sesame crisp, and sesame sponge cake (€6.80) or the Tasha, lychee mousse and biscuit joconde (€6.80).
In conclusion, I would say that 0 d’Attente is a very good restaurant for discovering the cuisine of Sichuan and Shanghai at very accessible prices, as they remain overall very close to those of the neighboring Asian district.
A very good address also if you want to discover the specificities of certain regions of China in order to appreciate the complex and varied gastronomy of this immense country a little more precisely.
