My favorite restaurant recommendations in the 14th arrondissement

by Melle Bon Plan

In this article, I offer a selection of my favorite restaurants located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris that we have had the opportunity to try with my favorite photographer, or that I’ve tested with my girlfriends. I obviously update this article regularly to add new places I test over the years.

Chez Barbo is a seasonal bistro located near Pernety since October 2025, offering bistronomic cuisine prepared with seasonal and local products, with a special focus on sourcing, as nearly 80% of the products come from the Ile-de-France region. Verdict: a wonderful evening with creative and balanced plates, a friendly and laid-back team, all with a musical ambiance that we totally approve of.

For the starter, we tried the beef tongue (€15); I must say I was a bit hesitant, but honestly, it was incredibly melt-in-the-mouth, and the pairing with persimmon worked perfectly. Another surprising combination from chef Alexandre Aziza: veal sweetbreads with Brussels sprouts and kimchi (€16). All this accompanied by beautiful, carefully selected bottles. We continued with the veal sweetbreads worked as a main course, but also with this trout sourced in Ile-de-France, prepared with oyster mushrooms, parsley root, and nuts (€28). And to finish on a sweet and comforting note, we opted for this nostalgic dessert: madeleine, Corsican clementine, and chocolate (€14).

We discovered this lovely address located in the heart of the 14th arrondissement with my favorite photographer in 2022 and went back in 2026. This was the first Cantine du Troquet opened by chef Christian Etchebest, and today we find chef William Hilal, who masterfully ensures the quality of the dishes and the iconic convivial atmosphere of the place. On the menu, written on a bistro slate, we find the house must-haves that never change and dishes that rotate according to the seasons. As for products, all pork obviously comes from the southwest.

You feel at home here, enjoying well-made bistro dishes, including the house classics as well as dishes with the new chef’s personal touch, such as the delicious pan-seared foie gras in its broth (€16) or the kohlrabi and ricotta ravioli (€15). You will also always find velvety soups or gazpacho on the menu depending on the season. For dessert, for the foodies, I recommend the choux of the moment (€14), without forgetting the tarts (€13), which are also a success (the best apple tart I’ve had in a long time…).

Papy aux Fourneaux is a restaurant designed as a living space and imagined through a quirky and endearing character: papy (a change from the grandma who cooks, which makes it less sexist, and I find that quite nice). This modern and convivial table d’hôtes near Pernety in Paris offers dishes to share (starting from 2 people) served in the middle of the table, just like at home! The establishment also offers a grocery corner to take home the good products offered by the restaurant, as well as a lounge area with foosball, a swing, and board games.

I am taking you on a tour of Avenue du Maine to step through the door of a real Parisian bistro, straight out of another era: Le Petit Sommelier. Le Petit Sommelier is a family story, a French-style bistro with a true sense of hospitality, fast service, table runners, and cloth napkins, not to mention the imposing counter.

This legendary restaurant near Montparnasse and a true jewel of Art-Deco architecture is one of the most famous Parisian brasseries. The place itself, which opened in 1927, retains traces of an intoxicating past, as the immense artist Joséphine Baker was even immortalized by Victor Robiquet on the pilaster at the back of the room on the right. This institution has also welcomed other great names like Cocteau, Aragon, Picasso, Chagall, and even Hemingway.

In 2012, I had already spoken about this address located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, on one of the corners of the Place Denfert-Rochereau, in an article. It was at the very beginning of my blog, and I was scouring the capital in search of good brunch addresses. It was almost 4 years later that I went back to have lunch in this Parisian restaurant with a friendly atmosphere and a spirit similar to a nice neighborhood spot. The setting is very pleasant, and I really like the cozy ambiance of the place with its large red benches, all in a decor worthy of a beautiful Parisian brasserie.

On the menu (which is quite short, and that’s a good sign!), we find Parisian classics like entrecote, steak tartare, or homemade cheeseburgers, but also several fish dishes (see below), gourmet salads, and quick bites (croque monsieur, club sandwich, hot dog, etc.).

Facade of the Café du Rendez-Vous, restaurant and bar, with passersby and a bike.

To taste:

  • As a starter, the beef carpaccio with capers, pesto, arugula, and parmesan shavings (€10).
  • For fish, I highly recommend the John Dory à la plancha, artichokes in a cocotte, and fresh herb salad (€22); be careful, though, you have to like cilantro!
  • Another option for fish lovers is the pan-seared sea bass fillet, potato purée, and vierge sauce (€19).
  • For children (up to 12 years old), a special menu for €11 is offered, with a mini burger or minced steak or fish sticks, accompanied by homemade mashed potatoes or fresh fries, and for dessert, a scoop of ice cream or a waffle with a glass of soda or mineral water.
  • For dessert, I first advise you to absolutely try the fine apple tart and its vanilla ice cream (€8), worthy of my grandmother’s!
  • For aficionados, you can also let yourself be tempted by the homemade floating island and its Madagascar vanilla custard (€8).
  • Otherwise, you can also dive in with your eyes closed and taste buds open for the pear and chocolate crumble (€8), a real treat!
  • More classic, you also have the famous “just a little gourmet” coffee with the mini desserts of the moment (€8).
