La RaLLonge, a gourmet tapas bar

Just a few streets away from Rue Labat, where I lived for 3 years, in the heart of the imaginary border between the 18th arrondissement on the Barbès side and the 18th on the Sacré-Cœur side—in what we call Bas-Montmartre—nestles a lovely spot styled as a “fork and corkscrew” bistro, as indicated on the sign.

This eatery is actually the annex of La Table d’Eugène, a gourmet restaurant run by chef Geoffroy Maillard, located two doors down, which was awarded its first Michelin star last year.

the space is lively and the noise level in the small room builds up quickly, but you feel completely immersed in a bustling, friendly neighborhood atmosphere.

On-site, you can enjoy small portions served “fork and spoon” style, like fine, subtle tapas, perfect for a light yet high-end gastronomic evening.

You come to La RaLLonge for a gourmet aperitif or for a dinner featuring multiple small portions for a true feast for the palate.

To try:

  • The truffle toast (€14), with truffle butter and lard di colonnata (an Italian product I discovered at Oliva restaurant).

Truffle toast and green salad on a wooden board, La RaLLonge.

  • The shell pasta risotto, porcini mushrooms, and truffles (€10). If you only try one tapas dish, this is it—it’s a must-have and so comfortingly nostalgic! I could go back to this place just for this dish!

Creamy tapas served hot in a black cocotte with the lid slightly open.

  • The langoustine spring rolls with plancha-grilled langoustines, mint, cilantro, and sweet and sour sauce (€10).

Fried spring rolls served with Asian salad and sauce at La RaLLonge.

  • The sea bream tartare with ponzu, ginger, and daikon (€12), fresh and crunchy.

Gourmet tapas at La RaLLonge Restaurant: thin radish slices over tartare.

  • The Kintoa ham croquettes with onion and béchamel (€5 for 3, €9 for 6, and €13 for 9)—as a huge croquette lover, I can never miss out on trying this type of dish whenever it’s on the menu…

Golden croquettes served in a white bowl at La RaLLonge tapas bar.

  • The crispy lamb fillet mignon with basil and zucchini caviar (€9).

Roasted stuffed meat tapas, presented on a white plate.

  • For dessert, the deconstructed lemon tart with lemon foam, Breton shortbread, and black lemon meringue (€7), a very successful combination.

Creamy dessert with oreo meringue and crunchy pieces in a bowl, La RaLLonge.

  • Another treat is the lemongrass cream served with fresh strawberries in their juice (€7).

Dessert verrine with strawberries and shortbread, spoon.

In conclusion, I highly recommend checking out this wonderful spot in the 18th arrondissement with some good friends.

My tip: it is best to book in advance as the place is often full…

Price: lunch set menus at €19.50 with appetizer + main + dessert or €15.50 with appetizer + main or main + dessert / evening: tapas à la carte only / wines by the glass between €5 and €9
