Green House, the organic restaurant by Kristin Frederick

This Green House is the latest address from Californian Kristin Frederick, who was the pioneer of Parisian street food by launching the Camion qui Fume several years ago. Since 2017, she has opened a quite different restaurant centered around her urban organic vegetable garden.

We had the chance to discover this establishment shortly after its opening during the summer of 2017 and we returned (to our great delight) during the summer of 2020 to see just how high-quality this address still is!

Kristin‘s Green House is a small, warm, and friendly place, an oasis of greenery in the city where you quickly feel right at home. And Kristin‘s personality certainly plays a big part in that!

On the plate, you’ll find fresh and light cuisine that is a perfectly balanced blend of Californian, French, and Asian influences. To pair with the meal, Kristin has selected a wonderful list of natural wines, which she updates very regularly so you can always discover new labels. I highly recommend letting yourself be guided by her suggestions, which will lead you to some real gems!

A la carte in 2017:
  • As tapas, the vegetable gyoza with Sichuan sauce and black vinegar (€6), a killer, an absolute must-try!

  • The beef and aji-guacamole tacos (€7), which reminded me a little of our trip to Mexico.

  • The vegetable tempura with a ponzu sauce (€7).

  • For a main dish, the bomba rice with smoked white tuna, pickles, lemon condiment and herbs (€15).

  • I also suggest you try the homemade iced ginger black tea (€3), which is very, very good!

  • For dessert, we shared the apricot Granny Pie (€6); I’m still salivating just thinking about it…

The menu in 2020:
  • Tomato and burrata salad (€11); roasted beets, tahini sauce (€10); green beans with Chinese garlic sauce (€9); eggplant and soy egg (€10); “cheeseburger” spring rolls (€12); patatas bravas (€6); grilled zucchini with ginger sauce (€8).

  • And for dessert, we fell in love with the chestnut royal cake (€7), which was just killer and absolutely not heavy, contrary to what one might think!!!

The little extra: you can sit back with delight during sunny days on the very quiet little terrace surrounded by Kristin Frederick‘s famous vegetable garden.
