Papy aux Fourneaux is a restaurant designed as a living space, imagined through a quirky and endearing character: papy (a change from the classic ‘grandma cooking’ trope, which makes things feel a bit less sexist, and I think that’s great). This modern and friendly guest table near Pernety in Paris offers dishes to share (for 2 or more) served right in the middle of the table, just like at home! The establishment also features a grocery corner so you can take home the quality products offered by the restaurant, as well as a lounge area with a foosball table, a swing, and board games.
The weekly blackboard menu obviously changes… every week, offering a choice between 2 starters, 3 main courses (including 1 vegetarian dish), and 3 desserts (including a cheese plate). Everything is cooked fresh on the same day using seasonal products sourced from small French producers who practice sustainable or organic farming. Since all dishes are prepared for a minimum of 2 people, if you are only two (as was our case), you will need to agree on a common dish.

So, I think the point of this place is really to come with your own tribe—family, friends, or colleagues—to enjoy a rustic, hearty meal and share all the dishes. Or, if you feel like eating with new people and meeting others, it can also be a great option!
Our dinner:
- Melon gazpacho, Coppa chiffonade, and salad
- Stuffed Beef Heart tomatoes with einkorn risotto-style, parmesan cream, and potatoes (vegetarian dish)
- Plate of cheeses from producers
- Strawberry Bavarois with tontsa
To accompany the meal, the establishment offers some lovely drinks like wine, and for my part, I was totally won over by their artisanal amber beer with Vexin honey (€5 for 25 cl).

Price: starters at €10 / main courses at €19 / desserts at €8
The tip: for 3 people or more on the same dish, you get a discount!
Lunch set menus (Tuesday to Saturday): €18 with starter + dessert + coffee / €25 with starter + main course + coffee or main course + dessert + coffee
Good to know: Papy organizes Sunday brunches (€29) once a month
