Chez He, Asian cuisine and a paradise for kids

When I was invited to discover the restaurant Chez He, I initially thought it wasn’t necessarily a place that fit my style. Let me explain. Chez He is an address in the 11th arrondissement, well-known to families, as the establishment has an immense play area, intended for children aged 1 to 11 and designed just for them.

Not having children, I didn’t see what kind of perspective I could have on this restaurant. But since the other main activity of the place is offering Asian, and more specifically Chinese, cuisine, I told myself that on that front, I would definitely be more in my element.

This friendly spot is above all convivial and better suited for large groups than a romantic dinner. The two dining rooms in the restaurant are large and were packed on the weekend, as we observed, which means they are also quite noisy, especially with a horde of toddlers running between the basement play area and their parents’ tables upstairs.

Because of this, the establishment is mainly a headquarters for families, large groups of friends, and parents dreaming of a relatively quiet meal (well, by parental standards of quiet, obviously).

The other aspect where the place could have really failed is the quality of the cuisine, of course. The establishment offers quite typical dishes, such as Sha Guo and Guozai style casseroles, which I found very good.

To taste:

  • As a starter, we shared some chicken spring rolls (€4.80) and a Dim Sum of shrimp dumplings (€4.80).

  • For the main course, I let myself be tempted by a shrimp Sha Guo with a homemade curry and lemongrass sauce (€15.80). For a quick explanation, this Chinese dish consists of fresh ingredients served in a terracotta pot, cooked right before our eyes and finished with a homemade sauce.

Just below, you will also see this type of casserole, but this time with meat, with a before/after photo to see the progression of the dish—raw when they bring it to you, cooked when they serve it to you.

The big plus for families: the incredible 350 m2 amusement park located in the basement and the televisions that allow you to calmly monitor your toddlers while sitting comfortably in front of your meal.

Price: lunch menu (Tuesday to Friday) with starter + main or main + dessert at €10.50 or starter + main + dessert or coffee at €12.50 / tasting menu lunch and dinner with starter + main + side + dessert at €24.50 / kids’ menu with park access at €19.90 / park rate (excluding meals from 3 PM to 7 PM) at €14.90
