For this new “favorite places” article, I decided to group together some quality restaurants that I’ve tested in the Belleville neighborhood, which I really love. Indeed, in this trendy area located in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, there are many great places to eat during a visit or even a short walk. There is something for everyone and for every budget as well.

Café des Délices
This neighborhood spot is a great find, where it’s lovely to settle down and enjoy the comforting cuisine of the two young chefs (Sido Beausoleil and Thomas Coste) behind the stove! Plus, the prices are very competitive. We tried the eggs with smoked mayo (€6) and the leek tatin tart (€8) for starters. For main courses, we had the Drôme-style caillettes with mashed potatoes (€15.50) and the osso buco (€16). For dessert, we thoroughly enjoyed the vanilla cream with puffed rice (€7) and the super indulgent chestnut chocolate fondant (€7).

Brunch at Floréal Belleville
Located at the foot of the Parc de Belleville in the 20th arrondissement, Floréal Belleville is one of the legendary spots in this great, diverse and multicultural neighborhood (it was occupied for 30 years by the engaged photographers’ collective “Bar Floréal”) and it reopened last October after being closed for 3 years, driven by the Ossipovski siblings. Being both a bar, a restaurant, and a cultural space, this 200 m2 living space with a magnificent Art Nouveau facade is now dedicated to sharing, meeting, and social bonding, and I must admit, it feels really good there!
The restaurant menu is designed around seasonal products and it changes every month depending on the chefs who take turns in the kitchen. On weekends, the establishment offers a very, very lovely à la carte brunch (and as we don’t see enough of these, I think) that we actually tested with the favorite photographer at the end of last year. I highly recommend you try it if you are a fan of this national sport that Parisians particularly love (brunch for those who didn’t understand me), because I was totally won over by the atmosphere of this place.

So, please note that the dishes below are the ones we were able to enjoy during our test of the place at the end of November 2018, so it is not certain that you will still be able to find them today given that the chefs change every month.
To taste:
- As for drinks, the choice is quite interesting, and for my part, I tested the mama coffee with coffee from La Brulerie de Belleville, milk, cinnamon, and orgeat (€4.20), and the favorite photographer had an artisanal tea (between €3.50 and €4 per teapot).
- The pumpkin velouté with Greek yogurt with tahini and garlic croutons (€5).
- The delicious homemade hummus which is absolutely incredible (€5)!
- The lamb and beef Keftas with cumin, hummus, roasted carrots, and pesto (€12).
- As a main course, we tested the Burger with brioche bun, marinated chicken, red cabbage, and potatoes (€12).
- For dessert, we chose to share the vanilla panna cotta crumble with spiced apple compote (€5).

The tip: lunch formula starter + main or main + dessert €13 / starter + main + dessert €15
The extra touch: the cultural part of the venue offers exhibitions and workshops aimed at promoting young creative talent, and I strongly advise you to take a look before or after your meal! Until February 15, you can see an exhibition titled “Contes pour adultes” (Tales for adults) by Etienne Clerc (painting, drawing).

Tested in 2018 - Thanks to Floréal Belleville for this wonderful invitation.
