The Hotel Scribe, one of Paris’s finest hotel establishments, is also a place steeped in history, as it was here that the first paid cinema screening by the Lumière brothers‘ Cinématographe was held.
Indeed, in 1863 the building was the headquarters of the Jockey Club, and it was in the Indian Salon of the Grand Café (now the location of the Hotel Scribe’s Café Lumière) that the first cinema screening, as we know it today, took place on December 28, 1895.

I’m telling you this because my favorite photographer and I are always very sensitive to these kinds of historical details, and it obviously gives a deeper dimension to our experience at the Hotel Scribe. I actually already mentioned this hotel to you this summer, if you recall, in my selection of summer terraces in Paris.
Anyway, back to business: the 5-star hotel now belongs to the Sofitel brand and offers a luxury establishment very close to the Opéra Garnier.

So we went there on a Sunday to discover their weekend brunch formulas. There are 2 menus served at the table: the Parisian Brunch (€35) and the Bubble Brunch (€40).
- Parisian Brunch: scrambled eggs, assortment of cold cuts and smoked salmon, arugula salad and roasted potatoes, cheeses, fresh fruit salad, breads and pastries (+ honey, jam, and butter), fruit juice, and a hot drink of your choice.

- Bubble Brunch: arugula salad, Rostello ham and soft-boiled egg, smoked salmon and cucumber, Caesar sucrine salad, farm-raised chicken and prawns, cheeses, fruit toast, breads and pastries (+ honey, jam, and butter), bubble tea, and a hot drink of your choice.

This brunch is really nice, first of all because of the setting; the tea room at the Hotel Scribe is super cozy and comfortable, and also because the portions of the brunch are perfectly balanced. At first, I was afraid we might be a bit hungry when the plates arrived, but in the end, even between the two of us, we couldn’t finish it all…
My only complaint would be regarding the pastries. All the products for the brunch are of high quality and special attention has been paid to that detail, but unfortunately, I find that the pastries are not up to the level of the rest of the brunch, which is a shame… However, the homemade marble cake served with it is a delight!

The little extra: the quality of the teas at the establishment, which sources its tea (funny coincidence) from a Lyon-based house I love, Cha Yuan, and there is even a delicious signature tea made exclusively for the hotel’s tea room.
Price: €35 or €40 per person for brunch

Thanks to the Hotel Scribe for this invitation.
