The best burger restaurants in Paris

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ve surely noticed that I enjoy street food and have a particular love for burgers, a dish to which I’ve already dedicated several articles. Today, I’m sharing a little guide that brings together my top addresses for establishments 100% (or mostly, let’s say) dedicated to burgers! Some are chains with multiple locations in Paris and even elsewhere in France, while others are one-of-a-kind restaurants with only one address.

I naturally update this article regularly to add new places I test over the years. And for convenience, I’ve also organized this selection by Parisian arrondissement.

Roomies Etienne Marcel

At Roomies, you’ll find fresh products from quality artisans, homemade preparations, and recipes crafted on the spot by us, since we completely choose the composition of our burger! And on top of that, the prices are very reasonable. However, don’t panic; for those lacking imagination, there are obviously always 2 creations to test: the Roomies (€11) and the burger of the moment. For information, after a first restaurant opened in May 2015 in the 1st arrondissement of Paris (the one I tested), the Roomies concept also opened a second address in the 8th arrondissement, then a third in the 9th arrondissement.

To try:

  • The burgers to build yourself, obviously (between €10 and €12); you choose your base, cheese, sauce, and the vegetables you want inside (you can even make a totally vegetarian burger!). The burger is accompanied by fresh fries or salad of your choice and a lovely selection of homemade sauces.
  • I advise you to accompany your burger with a small Gallia (between €3.50 and €6 depending on the size), a very pleasant Parisian beer.

Manhattn’s Burgers

Manhattn’s Burgers is a New York-style burger restaurant located on rue Montorgueil in Paris. The concept comes from Belgium, and this is the brand’s first address in France. You’ll find Belgian fries and sweet potato fries, Belgian beer from our friends at Brussels Beer Project (which I had already mentioned in an article about Brussels). But most of all, obviously, tasty burgers with good products like aged cheddar, AOC Tome de Savoie cheese, a brioche bun, and Irish Angus beef.

We tasted: the Gatsby burger (€14) with emmental, sautéed mushrooms, truffle mayo, crispy bacon, and lettuce; the Paname Cheeseburger (€14) with AOC Reblochon, caramelized onions, crispy bacon, chives, and honey-mustard mayo.

Shiso Burger Saint Michel

This brand, which has two addresses in Paris (Saint Michel and Beaubourg), offers Asian-inspired burgers with homemade rice flour buns. On the menu: super tasty burgers with marinated meat, but also very good vegetarian burgers. I have already been twice to the address in Saint-Michel, once for the opening with my favorite photographer and another time with my friend Mathilde for a girls’ lunch. By the way, I really like the seating area upstairs, which is very cozy.

To test: for drinks, I recommend trying the Shiso Lemonade (€5 per glass and €12 per liter); the Pure and Shiso salad (€12.50); the burgers, obviously (price between €10 and €12.50).

Il était un Burger

Il était un burger is a great spot located on rue Mouffetard in Paris, in the 5th arrondissement, which obviously serves good burgers! The decor is nice, well thought out, and very refined for a burger restaurant (special mention for the small alcoves at the back of the restaurant, which are very cozy).

My favorite is the Florian on air burger (€13.90) with blue cheese cream and walnuts, which was imagined by the friendly YouTuber of the same name. For a super pornfood burger, I recommend the London breakfast (€13.90), to be accompanied with cheddar fries (€4.50) for a cheese overdose. Finally, for drinks, don’t miss the freshly squeezed homemade juices made on demand (between €4 and €4.50), which are truly delicious!

Spécimen, smash burger

This smash burger spot, located in Paris near the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, offers a small venue with a retro 1970s New York vibe, featuring vintage furniture sourced by the founder of Spécimen, a burger fan who decided to create his own restaurant.

On the menu, we find a single product, the smash burger, with a double cheeseburger (€12.90) made with a blend of three parts of beef, matured for a rich taste, or a veggie burger (€12.90), super surprising with a large breaded portobello mushroom. The products are high quality, and the burgers are truly tasty and seasoned—in short, we loved it! The bun of the burgers is a brioche bread made with potato starch for great softness, baked every morning. You can accompany your burger with homemade fries, thin and seasoned with a blend of several spices. For drinks, it’s a Mexican vibe with a selection of Mezcal, or soda or Mexican beer (€6).

Bistro Burger Montparnasse

This brand has 3 restaurants in Paris: on the Grands Boulevards, in Montparnasse, and on Montorgueil. For our part, we went to test the Montparnasse address because it was the closest to me. I like the slightly industrial decor of this restaurant, made with reclaimed materials and old objects, like the wall of old mirrors (see photo below). Obviously, as in all the addresses I recommend, the burgers are homemade; here, the bread comes every morning from Rachel’s, and enthusiasts will appreciate the 100% Charolais beef.

To try:

  • As for the burger, I went for the burger of the moment, with a salmon fillet, zucchini, and fresh herbs (€14), just to change a bit from the usual burgers.
  • The favorite photographer tested the Saint Nectaire burger with the cheese of the same name, obviously, and a potato pancake (€12).
  • As a side for our burgers, we tested the fries with truffle salt & parmesan (€5.20), and the plain version (€3) as well.
  • For dessert, I went for the homemade tiramisu (what a surprise!!!) (€7), which I must say was very, very good (creamy texture, not too strong in coffee taste—in short, everything I love!)…
  • For drinks, you can opt for either a local beer (I like those from the La Parisienne brewery) or a glass of wine (price per glass between €4.50 and €5 for 12.5 cl).

Good to know: all burgers with meat can be served as a single or double patty according to appetite / the place also offers 3 vegetarian burgers (goat cheese, Provençal, or Portobello) / price of burgers between €9.90 and €19.20

Where to eat a burger in the 9th arrondissement of Paris

Disco Burgers is a restaurant located in Pigalle that offers a street-food concept unique in France. On the agenda: a machine specially designed at the request of the founders of the brand, Louis and Augustin, to create toasted and pressed-to-order burgers that keep all the ingredients inside! This keeps the burger ingredients nice and hot, and the recipes are super tasty. We tested the bee cheese, a beef patty version, and the italo disco, the address’s vegetarian burger. And a nice idea to avoid waste: the brand also reuses the scrapings from the buns to fry them and make disco sticks (€4).

Père & Fish

I discovered this brand in 2018 and returned in 2019 for a test as a jury member for the Sandwich & Snack Show Academy. I admit I really liked the burgers at this place, which is specialized, as its name suggests, in burgers prepared with fish. The products used are fresh, and the fish is sourced, as much as possible, from responsible fishing.

The brand has a restaurant in Paris but is also present in the Food Court of the 13th arrondissement, Iconik. You will also find a Père & Fish address in Lille.

Price: burger €12 / set menu with fries €13.50 / set menu with fries and drink €15

Thanks to Père & Fish for this invitation.

Les Burgers de Papa

This brand was born in Lyon in 2013. Today, the brand has about thirty restaurants all over France (Paris, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Versailles, Angers, Cagnes-Sur-Mer, Val Thoiry, La Réunion, Montpellier, Nice, Annecy, Thionville, Strasbourg, Cannes, Nantes, Lyon…). Les Burgers de Papa offers gourmet, short-supply chain burgers, cooked with fresh, local products, with bread delivered every morning by a partner baker in each city, and French-origin meat minced every day in the restaurant. The homemade fries are hand-cut and peeled on-site, cooked in two baths. The brand also offers milkshakes and a range of 3 “Binouze de Papa” (Papa’s brews), the house’s craft beers.

In Paris, there are 3 addresses in Paris and the Ile-de-France (Boulogne-Billancourt and Versailles). For my part, I tested the one installed in the 10th, in place of the former address of the Blind Pig Pub, which I had already told you about on the blog.

Caminito Aupa

This restaurant, located in the 13th arrondissement and reopened in November 2022 after some renovations, is super friendly, and it’s a place where it’s great to relax and grab a bite. Here, the specialty is the burger made with a croissant bun, and it’s a killer! This super original recipe is made with a patented, super soft croissant bread, accompanied by pulled meat: the Crogers. What’s nice is that this restaurant totally revisits the burger in a French version, and it’s truly a success!

To try: as a shared starter, the perfect egg on a mushroom cream (€7); the beef bourguignon burger with meat slow-cooked for 6 hours (price €9.90), which was selected for Paris Burger Week 2022; the burger with pulled veal in blanquette style (€11.90); as a side, the bravas-style potatoes; wines on tap (€5 per glass / €9 per quarter liter / €16 per half liter and €25 per bottle), but also an Italian frizzante on tap.

This little smash burger spot is located right next to Place d’Italie, so really not far from me. I discovered it within the framework of the Heura festival (a Spanish plant-based meat brand) organized in 10 addresses in Paris and Bordeaux in May and June 2024 to allow people to discover the brand’s products for free. On that occasion, I tested the Chinky Winky burger in a vegan version with an Heura plant-based chicken fillet, and I was blown away by the texture and taste of this product; it’s super successful. I also tested the Original Cheeseburger with a plant-based patty. And the address’s goal is precisely to be able to offer its entire range of burgers in a vegetarian version with Heura products as a replacement for meat.

Umami Burger

Umami Burger is a gourmet burger brand whose first restaurant was inaugurated in Los Angeles in 2009. The concept, based on original recipes, then expanded to the rest of California and Florida, but also to the East Coast, such as in New York. And since December 2021, the brand’s first restaurant in Europe and France opened its doors at the Pullman Paris Montparnasse.

Located on the first floor of the hotel, the restaurant spans nearly 800 m2 and can accommodate up to 280 guests. You can settle in to enjoy gourmet burgers, with 8 recipes on offer, tasty sides (including classic fries, truffle-flavored or sweet potato versions, “mac’n’cheese,” or even “Umami tenders” chicken wings), and desserts just like in the States.

Junk Smash Burgers

In 2022, this brand opened its first address at 114 rue Montmartre (75002 Paris), but only for delivery and takeaway. In May 2023, Junk Smash Burgers opened a second address to enjoy its burgers on-site if one wishes, or to take them away in Neuilly-sur-Seine, a few streets from the Bois de Boulogne and the Jardin d’Acclimatation. The venue with a futuristic decor, or “spaceship” I found, was imagined by «Hypnos», a studio specialized in interior architecture and design, with the contribution of the talented Will McGrath.

The brand’s specialty is smash burgers, those burgers where the steak is cooked and smashed cold onto the burning hot cooking plate using a press, which gives a meat crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Here, we find a minimalist basic recipe that focuses on flavors and texture, and which comes in S to XXL sizes depending on your appetite. The address also offers ephemeral recipes, and we tasted the Truffle Burger (€11.50). Good to know for vegetarians: the other burger of the moment was a Veggie Burger with a homemade vegetarian patty (€7.50). Accompanied by homemade fries (€3) or even fried chicken (€7.50), and for dessert, we find the soft cookies from Puffy (between €3.50 and €5). For drinks, the brand brews its own beer in collaboration with the Parisian brewery BapBap (€4).
