A short selection of shows for December (insider tip inside)

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

For this last show selection of the year, I’m going to help you discover some talented comedians, continue the Dancing with the Stars adventure, and since it’s December, it means gifts. Since you are such super readers, I asked Santa Claus before he headed back home to pull a wonderful surprise out of his sack just for you!

How would you like to win an invitation to a private evening where David Hallyday and his band Mission Control will be performing live? And since it’s Christmas, not one, but three of you will get to go with the person of your choice to this evening.

Inglorious Comedy Club

It’s the essential Tuesday meeting where comedian Vérino invites the best comedians from Paris—different ones each week—to the stage of the Théâtre De Dix Heures.

"Inglorious Comedy Club by Vérino" poster with an armchair and a comedian.

For my part, I went in November when Yohann Métay, Laura Laune, Monsieur Poulpe, Artus, and David Azencot were the comedians in the spotlight.

The concept:

Vérino, as a true master of ceremonies, invites each comedian on stage between sketches to present a good twenty minutes of their show.

Cathy’s review:

That night, the theater was sold out. It was a great atmosphere, and we all laughed a lot. What surprised me was the duration of the show: 1 hour 40 minutes instead of 1 hour 05 minutes as indicated online. The theater’s communications advisor explained to me that since Inglorious is the last show of the evening, the comedians let loose a bit more, to our great delight, of course!

Note:

Artus participated in Laurent Ruquier‘s show “On ne demande qu’à en rire” broadcast on France 2. As for Monsieur Poulpe, he is a host on Canal + in Antoine De Caunes‘ show: Le Grand Journal.

Duration: 1h05 to 1h40 depending on the day
Until December 30, 2014
Sessions: Tuesdays at 9:30 PM
Price: 5 € with optional contribution at the exit

Dancing with the Stars, the tour

The season 5 is coming to an end, and for all the die-hard fans of the TV show

, Brian Joubert, Rayanne Bensetti, Nathalie Péchalat, Gérard Vivès and Brahim Zaibat confirmed their participation and are joining Alizée for the new Dancing with the Stars tour!

The tour will begin on December 20, 2014 at the Zénith in Nantes, and will pass through the Zénith in Paris on January 30 and 31, 2015, as well as throughout France. After a triumphant first tour that brought together more than 100,000 spectators, Dancing with the Stars is back on tour in the most beautiful venues in France.

A unique opportunity for the public to see the most iconic stars from the first 5 seasons and the show’s professional dancers in a new series of event shows!

This year again, the audience and the jury (Jean-Marc Genereux, Chris Marques, and Jaclyn Spencer) will play a crucial role. Indeed, each couple will perform on stage before receiving scores from the jury.

At the end of two intense hours of shows, the audience present in the room will vote to choose their favorite couple. The shows will be hosted by Sandrine Quétier and Vincent Cerutti (in rotation).

Jarry Atypique

Noticed on television for his appearances on Ce Soir Tout Est Permis, or the Jamel Comedy Club among others, Jarry will present his atypical universe starting in January at L’Européen.

The story:

At the crossroads of stand-up and a gallery of characters, Jarry offers a crazy and atypical show. Far beyond the expected one-man show, Jarry catapults us into a well-conducted story: his job search. The opportunity for this artist with abundant imagination to portray his various professional experiences, each one wackier than the last (from a cashier at LIDL to a member of the GIGN, passing through a majorette…). The bizarre Jarry, with his overflowing sensitivity and hilarious candor, surprises, amuses, touches, and above all, makes people laugh out loud.

With his own unique gestures and his sense of rhythm both in his phrasing and in his dance steps, this “dazed oddball” shakes up preconceived ideas, destroys stereotypes, and presents a fast-paced, wacky, and extraordinary show.

Jarry's atypical resume with a photo of a man wearing glasses.L’avis de Cathy:

The evening I was there (a Saturday night), Jarry was sold out. I laughed for 1h20. Jarry is really very funny, dynamic, and present for his audience. For my part, I am very sensitive to artists who are close to their public.

Note:

On Wednesday, December 17, 2014, I had the chance to attend a roundtable discussion along with other bloggers and Jarry, of course. He showed great sincerity and did not overplay this meeting. He remains very lucid about his success. He is a truly good person, and I advise you to go to L’Européen to see him; you won’t regret it.

Duration: 1h30
From January 16 to April 04, 2015
Sessions: Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 9:30 PM
Prices: from 16.80 to 27 €

Tino Rossi sung by Christophe Mondoloni

Tino Rossi show sung by Christophe Mondoloni at the Théâtre des Mathurins. For those of you who are younger, Tino Rossi might not mean ANYTHING to you. For the others, he is an artist from the older generation who sang Petit Papa Noël during your childhood (yes, yes, we had to hear it every year without exception). But it is worth knowing that he is the only French artist to have sold more than 500 million records worldwide.

Enough to make all of today’s big labels dream! I’m not going to give you a bio of the singer, but I want to tell you about a musical show currently playing in Paris to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his passing.

This show will be presented for the Christmas holidays around a brand new version of the inescapable “Petit Papa Noël”.

Tino Rossi

sung by Christophe Mondoloni in acoustic is the new project initiated by this recognized Corsican artist, 15 legendary tracks of the great Tino sublimated by a respectful and touching orchestral arrangement. This show, sponsored by Michel Galabru, is above all intended to be a moment of sharing and emotion, a musical journey around the career and life of Tino Rossi.

Duration: 1h00
Until January 2, 2015
Sessions: Tuesday 23 and Friday 26 at 4:00 PM, Thursday at 2:00 PM

“Gustave”: Flaubert’s rant!

Jacques Weber show poster in Gustave Flaubert Théâtre de l'Atelier.

When a sacred monster of theater meets one of the most brilliant pens of the 19th century, it is what we call a masterstroke! And that is what the Théâtre de l’Atelier offers us with “Gustave”, a timeless monologue in which Flaubert pours out all his hatred of society with striking verve. The author of “Madame Bovary” receives a breakup letter, the starting point for a long series of sharp thoughts, marked by hatred and contempt for social conventions and their harmful effects on human reflection.

Author Arnaud Bédouet takes Flaubert’s correspondence, dissects it, reveals it, and offers it as a gift to the thunderous Jacques Weber, who appropriates the genius’s words in a minimalist setting that lets the full fervor of the words explode. Possessed, the actor is the writer; he is the judge of a mediocre society that congratulates itself in absurd politeness, which, according to him, distorts society. Terribly modern, “Gustave” hits you in the gut and acts as a mirror to our daily lives, where appearances and conventions make us forget the right to individuality and the desire to live on the margins of “what will people say.”

Two actors on stage, one holding up a photo, excerpt from the show Gustave.

That is the magic of theater, where an hour-and-a-half monologue drawn from Flaubert’s writings escapes boredom to transform the attempt into an indispensable work of truth, which prompts a salutary realization in the spectator. Flaubert rages, vomits the narrow-mindedness of his contemporaries, the clean and lyrical romanticism of Lamartine, the pompous academicism of his peers. It is delightful, clever, subtle, and it explodes like the thunder that serves as an external illustration of what is screaming inside a man in anger, disappointed by his non-right to originality. Flaubert is a contemporary author whose voice still resonates today in our consciences.

Mission Control, David Hallyday’s new band

We knew him singing in English and French, in a group or solo, and here he is again with what he has always loved: playing in a band. For this new adventure, singer and songwriter David Hallyday has surrounded himself with three musicians: bassist Fabrice

French music group posing under a crystal chandelier. Ach

, guitarist Olivier Freche, and drummer Alexis Hadefi. In addition to compositions, vocals, and 50% of the drums, David will be in charge of electronics and keyboards for his new group, which goes by the name Mission Control.

The recording of this album took place in France, in Loconville, in the family home where he grew up. Moreover, he says: “The main room where we recorded was used as a TV room when I was little: that’s where I saw the first man walk on the moon.”

After eight weeks of work with the greatest artistic freedom, the album Alive (spatial, epic, and melodic electro-pop) was born. The Rising, the first single, is a form of rallying anthem, an invitation to find one’s way, an ode to freedom.

On the occasion of the album’s release in early 2015, I have a little surprise for you; it’s a good thing, as it’s time to reveal it…
