My free Parisian summer guide: open-air cinema

Continuing my theme on free events to enjoy during the Parisian summer, which I began listing yesterday, today I’m featuring open-air film screenings.

This short 3-part guide will hopefully give you all the keys to a summer full of events if you’re spending any part of the season in the capital.

With all these screenings, there’s no reason not to have a wonderful summer—cinematically speaking—since all these events are free, just a little reminder in case…

La Chaise et l’Ecran – Open-air cinema in the 11th arrondissement.

From June 14th to August 30th, 2013, the 11th arrondissement Town Hall invites you to attend 5 free open-air film screenings in the gardens and squares of the district, featuring film classics programmed by Agnès Varda and Mathieu Demy.

  • The Young Girls of Rochefort by Jacques Demy, Friday, July 5th at 10:30 PM
  • The Beaches of Agnès by Agnès Varda, Friday, July 19th at 10:15 PM
  • Love Songs by Christophe Honoré, Friday, August 16th at 9:30 PM
  • Singin’ in the Rain by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly, Friday, August 30th at 9:30 PM

Important:

you must bring your own chair for each screening, otherwise you’ll be watching the film sitting on the ground!

In the 13th arrondissement, the Town Hall is offering a series of open-air cinema screenings every Saturday night from July 20th to August 1st, 2013 in different neighborhoods of the district. Screenings take place at nightfall and deckchairs are available on-site under certain conditions.

  • Hugo by Martin Scorsese, Saturday, July 27th at Square Paul Grimault
  • The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Robert Guédiguian, Saturday, August 3rd at Square des Chamaillards
  • Faut que ça danse! by Noémie Lvovsky, Saturday, August 10th at Square Rosny Ainé

Villette Open-Air Cinema

Open-air cinema 'Tous en Scène' Paris, July 24th - August 28th, 2013.

From Wednesday, July 24th to Wednesday, August 28th, 2013 (Tuesday to Sunday), you can enjoy free screenings at nightfall in the capital’s largest open-air cinema!

You can either settle down on the deckchairs with blankets available for rent (€7) for the occasion, or bring your own setup to be comfortably seated.

A really, really great selection for this Villette open-air cinema, with films that are essential to have seen for some, and to watch again with great pleasure for others… I guess I know what I’m doing with my August evenings in Paris…

Cinéma au Clair de lune

The Forum des Images is setting up for summer from August 1st to 11th, 2013 and taking its cinema all over Paris, from Montmartre to Montsouris, from Place des Fêtes to Place des Vosges, with the goal of seeing or re-watching some of the films—classic or more contemporary—that have used the City of Light as a backdrop.
