In the middle of summer, we’re more focused on finding a pool than thinking back to the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, which took place in May. That was without counting on the “favorite photographer” according to Mademoiselle Bon Plan herself, capable of writing an article 15 years late (my thing is photography, right!).
The accumulated delay meant that my hot takes turned into observations of an ancient historian – nowadays, any information more than 3 days old is ancient history.
I’m going to look back anyway at what to do during this superb Festival (other than watching movies, even if that’s the main point in my opinion, I won’t hide it from you) with a mix of photo reportage and some more or less pertinent remarks.

The beach… Or rather, the beaches of Cannes
The beach in Cannes is divided into dozens of sections belonging to various large hotel groups or brands like Nespresso. By the way, the latter has a nice beach with sun loungers and parasols where you can enjoy a coffee between two movies (but watch out, it gets crowded!).

There is, however, one free-access beach: the Gray d’Albion beach. It’s not very big, but more than enough to relax and take a quick dip in the Mediterranean while overlooking the yachts.

The Mouton Cadet Terrace at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes
Perched atop the Palace that hosts stars and festival-goers from around the world, there is a splendid terrace belonging to Mouton Cadet. They organize classy events accompanied by live music, Mouton Cadet wine (obviously), and all-you-can-eat gourmet products. Perfect for spending a pleasant evening enjoying the view.

Visit the city (yes, really) of Cannes
In particular, you must visit the historic district of Le Suquet and the Old Port. Far from the hustle and bustle of the Croisette, you can find a bit of serenity there. It’s the paradoxical effect of the Cannes Film Festival, as it is in the touristy area of the city that one finds quiet!

Furthermore, don’t hesitate to plan a few walks around the city, and I recommend taking a look at the 5 essential walks offered by Expedia decouvertes. For my part, I think I will test them during my next stay in Cannes.

The stepladder gang in Cannes
Now I’m not talking about the mafia, nor a casino heist, but perfectly harmless people. We all know the red carpet and the stars who walk it; we know less about the people on the other side of the barrier, perched on makeshift stepladders and ladders, armed with a state-of-the-art camera or a smartphone, ready to do anything to get the Holy Grail: the photo of their favorite star.
They sometimes wait a long time under the blazing sun for a few seconds of ecstasy. I might be a bit weird, but it’s worth a look!

Well, there you have it, all these beautiful photos have really made me want to go back to the Festival… Can’t wait for next year!
