The theater season has been underway for a few weeks now. And I am very happy to start this new season in your company.
At the beginning of this autumn, here is a selection of new shows that I had the chance to see. Believe me, all styles are on the program.
Come discover these shows that will not leave you indifferent. There will be something for everyone: headliners, one-man shows, dance, comedy. Follow me…
And notably two events that are not to be missed under any circumstances this October. The first is the arrival of the prestigious National Ballet and Choir of Poland on October 6th at the Casino de Paris.
The second major event is the musical Dance of the Vampires presented for the first time in France and in French, based on the film of the same name by Roman Polanski.

Table of Contents
The Ides of March (Les Cartes du Pouvoir)
On the menu for this play showing at the Théâtre Hébertot, which inspired George Clooney’s film The Ides of March, we find betrayal, violence, cruelty, jealousy, madness, dirty tricks, and strokes of genius behind the scenes of the American primary political campaign. A major score coupled with a reflection on Machiavellianism and power.
The story:
Stephen Bellamy, press secretary and campaign advisor to Governor Morris, is young, charming, brilliant, ambitious, and already very experienced. He is preparing for the American presidential primaries under the guidance of Paul Zara, an essential campaign manager whom he admires and who trusts him completely. Both, deeply convinced of their political and social ideals, engage honestly and with unwavering solidarity in this electoral battle. But you have to win… In the game of Power Politics, is betrayal inevitable?
Cathy’s opinion:
I liked the feeling of watching an American thriller while being in my seat… at the theater. No downtime. I appreciated the performance of Raphaël Personnaz.
Théâtre Hébertot 78bis boulevard des Batignolles, 75017 Paris Duration: 1h50 until November 30, 2014 shows: Tuesday to Saturday evenings at 9 p.m. / Saturday matinees 3:30 p.m. & Sunday 6 p.m.

Le Démon de Midi
Undoubtedly, this title speaks to you. Le Démon de Midi is a play written and performed by the actress Michèle Bernier in the early 2000s. Today, it is Pauline Cartoon – with the agreement of the former member of the Petit Théâtre de Bouvard – who takes up the role at the théâtre Lebout.
The story:
A woman married for about twenty years to a man who, at forty, decides to see “elsewhere”. Understand YOUNG women. From doubt to the discovery of the affair, through the advice of good friends and the family, our heroine questions herself by remembering what could have happened to end up there.
Cathy’s opinion:
Personally, I didn’t see Michèle Bernier’s show on stage. Just on television during a broadcast. I really liked Pauline’s show, who didn’t try to copy her predecessor. She just remained herself with the emotional worries of a modern-day woman.
Théâtre Le Bout 6 rue Frochot 75009 Paris Duration: 1h00 until January 30, 2015 shows: Every Friday at 9:30 p.m.

Mots d’excuse
Currently at the théâtre de Dix Heures, a play based on the book by Patrice Romain – a middle school principal – is being performed; this show gathers a collection of excuse notes from students’ parents, each more implausible than the last.
The story:
What a great moment to write to the teacher, the professors, or the principal advisor! Whether for tardiness, a medical absence, or an “unjustified” remark to their child, the excuse note must be convincing, relevant, and… well-written. Well, that’s what one thinks…
Cathy’s opinion:
I was pleasantly surprised by the direction. Each actor plays a student’s parent and comes to read their excuse note on stage with a good dose of humor and bad faith. This very funny show is a great moment to share with family.
Théâtre de Dix Heures 36 Boulevard de Clichy 75018 Paris Duration: 1h15 until: November 01, 2014 shows: Wednesday to Saturday at 7 p.m.

Julien Courbet does his Comic Out
You knew him as a television presenter, you listened to him on the radio. Now, come discover him at the theater.
The story:
Coming out as a comedian, looking back on 15 years of life. Forget the ideal son-in-law and political correctness. Julien Courbet spares nothing of his daily life: TV, marriage, sexuality.
Cathy’s opinion:
To be honest, I was a bit skeptical. A media professional, he is comfortable in his element. But here, finding himself with a different audience every night and revealing himself…. Well, hats off. Julien Courbet is a real comedian. He is funny and very natural on stage. A new string to his bow for everyone’s pleasure. Another great time I had.
Théâtre Trévise 14 rue de Trévise 75009 Paris Duration: 1h10 until: December 23, 2014 shows: every Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Mazowsze, the National Ballet of Poland
This visit to our capital is symbolic. It is a way to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of Mazowsze’s first tour in France.
This show with 1000 costumes, often adorned with stones and corals, and some of which are over a hundred years old, is an extraordinary fresco that traces part of Poland’s history. The whole thing is masterfully interpreted by 70 dancers and choristers who are graduates of the greatest ballet and music schools in their country.
From October 4 to 18, 2014 for an anniversary tour of 25 performances across France and two exceptional shows in Paris, at the Casino de Paris on Monday, October 6, 2014

Dance of the Vampires, the musical
The director signs this surprising, exuberant, and quirky show with breathtaking sets and costumes. How do I know all this, you might ask, when the show won’t start until October 16th?
It’s simple. Last week, I had the privilege to discover in exclusivity at the théâtre Mogador, all the work workshops – sets, costumes, makeup, acting, dance – in the presence of the artists, the technicians, the production team, and Roman Polanski himself.
A magical moment. It’s the first time I’ve seen the backstage of a big show. Kindly invited to the preview on October 15th, I will think of everything I saw, and what is familiarly called the “behind the scenes”.
From my seat, I will have an emotional thought for all the artists and technicians who will give their best.
Théâtre Mogador 25 rue de Mogador 75009 Paris Duration: 2h40 (including 20mn intermission) from October 16, 2014 shows: Tuesday to Friday 8 p.m. - Saturday 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. - Sunday 3 p.m.

Ménage à 3, the concert of a polymorphic trio
Chloé Lacan and her two accomplices, Brice Perda and Nicolas Cloche, expect you on Tuesday, October 7th for an exceptional concert.
This polymorphic trio that moves from one instrument to another will take you into delicate and powerful musical universes with a jubilant complicity. How to lead a normal life when you have decadent delicacy, hilarious despair, crazy opera, and erotic accordion?
A “Ménage à Trois”, with jazzy accents, serves wonderfully the sweet madness of this mischievous Diva interpreted by Chloé Lacan.
Ménage à 3, the concert of a polymorphic trio on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 8 p.m. L'Européen 5 rue Biot - 75017 Paris

The Exoconference by Alexandre Astier
This show is classic Astier (yes, okay, I’m a fan!) where the staging by Jean-Christophe Hembert (who had already done that of “Que ma joie demeure” in 2011-2012) completes wonderfully the acting of this man who excels at everything (or almost?): musician, poet, astronomer, philosopher…
We can see that he is having fun and, by the same token, makes us happy for 1h30 (you don’t see the time pass)!
Eloha’s opinion:
One word to qualify this moment: jubilant! We leave this show with images full in our eyes, ideas full in our heads, melodies full in our ears (maybe a bit loud?) and… a furious desire to look at the stars with the wonder-filled eyes of a child. Thank you Mr. Astier!
Théâtre du Rond Point 2 bis avenue Franklin Roosevelt 75008 Paris from September 18 to October 19, 2014 December 19, 20 and 21, 2014 at the Bourse du Travail in Lyon February 10 and 11, 2015 at the Radiant-Bellevue in Lyon / Caluire
