The year has barely started and the great deals are already flooding our calendars… This week marks the launch of the winter sales, which will run from Wednesday, January 7 to Tuesday, February 17, 2015.
If I give you the same speech every year at the same time, it’s because for me, the sales remain one of the main fashion and shopping deals of the year, so why miss out?!
In short, a quick article just to remind you of the dates for these winter sales and a few great deals that go along with them.
Because times are changing, we now do our clothing and accessory shopping almost as much (or even more!) on the internet as we do in-store. So, I’m also introducing you in this article to the sites I’ve discovered recently that hold some really great bargains…

5 tips for a World Tour of sales
Lengow has whipped up a sort of Backpacker’s Guide for the e-shopper that I’m sharing with you here, including a list of best practices to avoid bad surprises because, much like a trip, a world tour of sales requires a bit of preparation:
- General Terms and Conditions of Sale
Distance selling legislation varies from one country to another. Remember to inform yourself about the rules in force, especially regarding withdrawal periods and refund policies. So, have your dictionary ready, use Google Translate as much as you need, but don’t buy blindly, especially for valuable items!
- Customs fees
If you want to buy a product in a country that is not part of the Schengen area, customs fees will be added to the delivery costs. An extra cost to consider before you are sure you’re getting a good deal!
- Bank fees
If you have to pay in a currency other than the euro, also check the rates applied by your bank for this type of payment.
- Electrical appliances
If you are buying electrical/home appliances, don’t forget that plugs are different from one country to another and you will likely need to invest in an adapter as well. Furthermore, electrical standards (voltage and current frequency) are not the same everywhere. Pay close attention to the product datasheet to check that it will work in France. In France, the voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz.
- Sizes
Sizes are also expressed differently from one country to another. Remember to check your size equivalent before buying a garment, information that is easily found on the Internet.

Sales at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann
Like last year, Galeries Lafayette is organizing a big contest on social media. Just post a photo of your sale shopping accompanied by the hashtag #SOLDISSIMES for a chance to have your purchases reimbursed (up to €250 in gift cards).
Another fun piece of news: another contest is being organized in partnership with AirBnb to offer an exceptional night to 6 lucky winners, who will spend an evening and a night in the store the day before the sales, on Tuesday, January 6. Apparently, everything will happen on social media today!

Cool sales at BHV Marais
For the launch of the sales, the BHV MARAIS is organizing a giveaway contest to win €500 for the sales.
3 days: 3 chances to win: on January 7, 10, and 11, 20 hostesses in orange outfits will be present in the neighborhoods of central Paris (Montorgueil, Saint-Germain, Louvre-Rivoli, République, Ile Saint Louis, Saint-Paul) to distribute entry forms, which can then be dropped off at the Welcome Desk on the ground floor of BHV Marais, 52 rue de Rivoli.
To be sure of finding the hostesses, clues will be given to you on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
Each evening, a winner will be drawn to win €500 for the sales!

Your Eram sales 100% reimbursed
From January 7 to 18, 2015, Eram is reimbursing the sales purchases of its luckiest customers (24 in total, for a maximum of €150 per purchase) made in-store or on the brand’s website.
To do this, make sure you keep your receipt or your e-shop invoice to prove your purchase and then register right here to fill out a form.
An excellent way to start the year off on the right foot!

Shopping the sales at the biggest fashion and luxury outlet in France
To stack up the discounts, the best tip is to go during these sales periods to the premium outlet of the Île-de-France region: One Nation Paris.
Since the concept of the outlet is to normally offer the previous year’s collections at a minimum of 30% off, you can imagine that the trip is worth it. Furthermore, the center already boasts more than 80 stores.
The extra perk: on site, a bakery by Gontran Cherrier, La table de Gontran, for the foodies.

SoCloz e-reservation conquers the Winter Sales
The e-reservation solution SoCloz will be available for the first time during the sales with 15 brands, starting January 15 (for the 2nd markdowns).
With this solution, you can reserve the product of your choice for free and without obligation, and then head to the store to see it in person and confirm your choice by getting your hands on the product.
Consequently, you avoid frustration (you’re sure to have your bargain set aside), you avoid stress and endless queues, and you can change your mind until the last minute because the reservation is free and without any obligation to buy!
The brands activated for the 2nd markdowns: Aigle, André, Caroll, Chevignon, Cosmoparis, Devred, Eram, Gérard Darel, Guy Degrenne, Karl Marc John, Kookaï, Le Tanneur, Minelli, Naf Naf, Pablo, San Marina, Sinequanone, Tara Jarmon.

Rue du Commerce launches its #SoldesKDO operation on Twitter
Rue du Commerce is taking advantage of the sales to launch its #SoldesKDO operation on Twitter to drop the price of 15 products with a simple tweet from January 7 to 21.
The concept is simple: before each game session, tweet the product from the site you want to see the price dropped for. The most requested product is then put up for play on Twitter. Each retweet generates a €1 drop in the initial price of the product, the goal being that the number of retweets is equivalent to the price of the product, minus €1.
Once the required threshold is reached, a drawing among all the retweets designates the beneficiary of the product for €1. The value of these products is between €100 and €400.
The operation is also relayed on Facebook since 15 vouchers worth €100 will be up for grabs by drawing, by answering the question “What is THE product you would like to see on sale?”.

The Men’s version of the Sales
Chictypes, the men’s clothier, brings the sales to your doorstep by offering men the opportunity to shop the sales, benefit from personalized advice, and try on clothes quietly at home, all for free.
A unique service that offers up to 30% discount on a selection of items handpicked by your dedicated stylist.
If you don’t like some of the clothes, just send them back within 7 days (at no cost). Each item is paid for at the store price, the styling service is free, just like the delivery and return.
The extra perk: a little over a year after launching its online personal shopping service, ChicTypes is opening its showroom at 14, rue Soleillet within its premises in Paris.
This gives members the opportunity to meet their stylist in person and try on carefully selected clothing for them in a private and comfortable space. You can also take advantage of measurements and advice from ChicTypes experts during the fitting!
