During my vacations in Belgium, I used bed and breakfasts a lot for my accommodation, so I wanted to write a short post as a little parenthesis on this way of traveling. It’s actually a type of accommodation that I particularly appreciate and have been using for several years during my trips whenever I can afford it.
It’s not always much more expensive than a hotel, but often for the same price, you get a place with much more charm, quality service (breakfast is often delicious and included in the room rate), and a very pleasant human touch if you like meeting the people who live in the country or region you are visiting. Below, I’m giving you a quick overview of the different B&Bs I stayed at during my Belgian journey.

La Bajocienne Bed and Breakfast
Our first B&B, La Bajocienne, was located in Ruette in the Gaume province, not far from the French border.

La Ferme du Comptoir Bed and Breakfast
Our second B&B, La Ferme du Comptoir, was, as the name suggests, on a farm in the vicinity of Liège, not far from the Fagnes.

Champlenoy Bed and Breakfast
Our third B&B, Champlenoy, this time a charming B&B in the area around Brussels, in Bierges.
This is by far, I believe, my favorite B&B of the whole stay in Belgium, and I think the photos speak for themselves… Simply sublime, and the lady who ran it, a former costume designer for Belgian television, was truly adorable.

De Nachtegaal Bed and Breakfast
Our fourth and final B&B was near Bruges, in Damme: De Nachtegaal. The first B&B run by Flemish hosts, but they spoke French perfectly. Special mention for the breakfast, which was truly the best of the entire trip!

Moulaert, Vierscharestraat 21, B8340 Damme

In conclusion, I would say that I highly recommend this mode of accommodation if you have time to prepare your trip a little in advance and are looking for an alternative to the impersonal and less warm nature of hotels in general.
If you are a fan of decor, specific atmospheres, and beautiful architecture, it is also a way of traveling that might appeal to you. Have a great trip!
