A small selection of shows for this winter (invitations inside)

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

The end of the year is approaching and winter is well settled, so it is time to offer you my new selection of show outings for this winter period, just to warm up in Parisian theaters.

A program that remains varied around music in this selection since we will talk about theater, music hall, songs, musicals, and dance.

And as the icing on the cake, I managed to snag a promo code for Momix and some invitations for the family show Mozart, le chien qui parle, presented in this article (the contest is at the bottom of the page for those interested and to see the terms and conditions).

After immense success in Italy, the dance company Momix will perform its show Viva Momix Forever on the stage of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées from December 24 to January 7. For information, this company was founded in 1980 by the American Moses Pendleton.

In Viva Momix Forever, the choreographer celebrates the advent of his company and presents a selection of his best creations, coupled with brand-new pieces. The dancers, both athletes and illusionists, constantly play between fiction and reality, thus transforming the ordinary into a surreal and joyful journey.

Brel tout simplement

Olivier Laurent in Brel... Tout Simplement at the 13ème Art.

Since its opening last fall, the 13ème Art venue has become my headquarters in terms of shows since it is 5 minutes from my home (which is rather practical, I must admit). I had already gone to see 2 shows in the main hall and it is to discover the one by Olivier Laurent that I returned, but this time in the establishment’s small hall.

This Belgian artist performs with brilliance the great Brel and his timeless songs in “Brel… tout simplement” and one is disturbed by the resemblance of his voice and his gestures with this departed character. For a moment, we believe we are seeing this great singer who marked his era (and ours as well, ultimately) again.

Leaving this show, my favorite photographer and I had a furious desire to plunge back into the very unique universe of this irreplaceable singer.

A show that I therefore warmly recommend if you are a lover of Brel’s songs or if you want to discover a little more about his universe.

Welcome to Woodstock

I must admit that I had some apprehensions before going to see this show, because I had heard bad feedback from a friend who hadn’t liked it at all.

Finally, I had an excellent evening on the road to Woodstock and let myself be carried away in this “psychedelic musical road trip” that makes us relive the hippie years.

The pitch is quite simple (some might say simplistic): in the aftermath of May 68, a group of friends decides to leave for the United States to Woodstock to attend the greatest concert of all time.

What I particularly appreciated in this musical show is to hear again (and for some, discover) the greatest American pop/rock songs from the 65/70 years. All songs are performed live by the 12 artists, singers, musicians, and actors who are on stage.

The success of the play also holds a lot for me in their performance and especially their desire to communicate the values and ideals of that era.

Les Sea Girls

Following its nomination for the 2017 Molières in the “best musical show” category, Les Sea Girls are returning to Paris for 8 performances at the Trianon from December 23 to 31, 2017.

Four women in yellow wigs and sequined gold outfits, cabaret style.Four "Sea Girls" show artists in white feather costumes.

The Sea Girls persist in dancing, singing, but this time, they reveal themselves as never before. They talk to each other, exhibit their weaknesses, the bad spirit of one or the other. They dare everything, an opera aria, a Swan dance, confirm their mastery of magic, tap dancing, invite a dog on stage…

Their longevity recipe: lyrical music, burlesque songs, humor as an obsession, the spirit of Music-Hall as a guide, pure entertainment!

I haven’t seen this show yet, but I’m going on December 30th and I think (and hope) that it must be a show perfectly in the spirit of the year-end holidays.

Stomp: The sound of the street

We no longer introduce Stomp and its musicians of a different kind! Since its creation in 1991, Stomp has seduced more than 15 million spectators around the world. Their secret: simple everyday objects, a broom, a sink, a lighter, trash cans, used as instruments. 8 young artists on stage make the street their playground, their outlet to express a state of mind, a lifestyle, and deliver a message.

A recognition that continues its way today on the stage of the Folies Bergères for a few performances only. And why not spend New Year’s Eve on December 24 listening to the song of the street! Because that is what it is about, paying tribute to these artists who knew how to express their desire for music, thanks to a little ingenuity, with whatever they had on hand.

Stomp poster, show from December 7 to 24, 2017 at the Folies Bergère.

On the stage of the Folies Bergères, tableaux follow one another, each more astonishing than the last, dragging the audience into a rhythmic frenzy. The prowess of the troupe comes from its complicity, everyone listening to the other to perfect a note, a sound, an effect in the beauty of the whole. We have fun, we tap our feet, we snap our fingers listening to these atypical percussions. A gigantic music box that smells of tar and waste.

Perhaps we would have liked to see them get their hands even dirtier, and feel more the heritage of the street. But what a pleasure to feel your heart vibrate when materials clash and when the body itself becomes an instrument. Add a few clownish scenes, poetry generated by the light of a few lighters, all sprinkled with communicative energy, and that gives the Stomp spirit. Succumb!

Poster "Mozart le chien": musical comedy with family and labrador.Mozart, the talking dog

Mozart, the talking dog is a family musical, written by Rémy Caccia and Christelle Chollet (authors of Scooby Doo, l’Empiafée, Comic-Hall) where for the first time in the theater, a Dog plays the lead role. Which obviously sharpens curiosity (mine too since I haven’t seen this show yet)…

The pitch: Have you ever wondered what your dog was thinking about? Thanks to Mozart the dog you will finally know. Mozart the dog lives with the Lecate family. Mozart thinks, Mozart sings, Mozart tells jokes, but Mozart will have to fight against a malicious neighbor, Doctor Devil, who wants to kidnap him in order to study his exceptional brain.

The tip: I am actually having you win invitations below to discover this play !!!
