European Heritage Days 2015

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

I share many events on the blog, but if there is one I am particularly fond of, it is the European Heritage Days, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Communication.

This year, these Days, which will take place over the weekend of Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2015, will have the theme “Heritage of the 21st century, a history of the future.”

In parallel with these days, the 4th edition of the Heritage Week will take place from September 19 to September 30 in the Ile-de-France region and will be dedicated to sustainable development.

Melle Bon Plan’s little Parisian selection:

Visit to the Château de la Reine Blanche

Don’t hesitate to visit the Château de la Reine Blanche in the 13th arrondissement, which I mentioned in a previous article, if you haven’t already taken advantage of it.

This house with pointed gables is quite unknown yet classified as a Historic Monument; it was built for the Gobelin family and it is truly worth a detour!

Visit the headquarters of the French Red Cross

For the second year, the French Red Cross is opening the doors of its headquarters, installed in an atypical and historic place: the former Broussais Hospital in Paris, to the public.

During these two days, young and old can visit this iconic building, browse an exhibition retracing the history of the association, discover its different professions and the training center for Ebola volunteers, and be introduced to life-saving gestures.

The restored Golden Gallery of the Banque de France

With its 8-meter vault and impressive dimensions, the Golden Gallery is the jewel of the Hôtel de la Vrillière, bought in 1808 by the Banque de France.

Golden Gallery, painted ceiling, shiny parquet floors, European Heritage Days.

Built in 1640 by François Mansart and restored for the first time under the Second Empire, the Golden Gallery has just been restored again in 2015 with the intervention of Perrot & Richard Architectes.

The painted ceilings by artist François Perrier were almost completely lost, as were the canvases adorning the walls, but the restoration campaign has enhanced the existing decor while adapting the Gallery to contemporary requirements.
