The City of Le Kremlin-Bicêtre (Val-de-Marne) is shifting to Russian and Russian-speaking cultures and inviting us on January 24, 25, and 26, 2014, for the 5th edition of its RussenKo Festival held in several locations across the city.
This event, now a must-attend for seeing the Russia of today in its most creative light, offers a rich program spanning visual arts, photography, literature, cinema, music, and round tables.
An eclectic program, as evidenced this year by the festival opening up to other disciplines such as video games, graphic design, and even gastronomy (and that is such great news!!!).
This 5th edition also broadens its geographical scope by partnering with Novosibirsk, the guest of honor city, as well as Irkutsk, a city nestled on the shores of Lake Baikal in the great Russian east.
Melle Bon Plan’s personal selection:
- A photography exhibition under the magnificent vaults of the Grand Réservoir de Bicêtre – “Russia Beyond Mythologies,” presented by the Multimedia Art Museum of Moscow (MaMM, formerly the Moscow House of Photography).
- A photography exhibition by Alexander Gronsky featuring a series of Siberian photographs, “Norilsk as seen by Alexander Gronsky,” at the Espace Culturel André Malraux (opening with the artist in attendance on Thursday, January 9 at 7 PM).
- An arthouse film series, “Young Russian Directors,” at the Espace culturel André Malraux (featuring: Counter-Movement by Andrei Stempkovsky, Tanya’s Last Voyage by Aleksey Fedorchenko, Portrait at Twilight by Angelina Nikonova, Short Circuit: 5 Love Stories – Piotr Byslov, Aleksey German Jr., Boris Khlebnikov, Kirill Serebrennikov, Ivan Vyrypayev, and The Bullet Collector by Aleksandr Vartanov).
On January 25, 2014, we will be able to discover the young generation of Russian directors with the screening of 7 films as well as meet-and-greet sessions.
“RussenKo for Kids” will also feature 8 Russian animated short films in the same room.
- Activities revolving around video games and graphic creation: “Come create your game” competition, round tables on industry and creation themes, training and career paths, and participatory workshops with Russian and French professionals present.
- In partnership with the Cité de la Gastronomie Paris-Rungis and the French Mission for Heritage and Food Cultures, RussenKo will offer a special moment of exchange between Russian and French gastronomy.
On the program:
an inaugural banquet (registration online and on-site) prepared by Russian and French chefs, participatory culinary workshops, cooking demonstrations and tastings, and round table discussions.
- A grand carnival involving festival-goers by the collective Girafe Royale, an Estonian troupe led by the great Russian street theater master Stanislav Warkki.
- “RussenKo for Kids,” a program entirely dedicated to young audiences with animated films and cartoons (The Nanny Trilogy by Garri Bardin or Babushka’s Walk), a puppet theater, a classic Russian tale, the Soleil Troupe of Irkutsk, a choreographic ensemble (traditional Russian dance) of about a hundred young dancers, and various workshops (Russian gastronomy, tape art, puppetry, and literature).
- Performances by the Russian folk orchestra Russ’orchestra featuring classical folk music and the rock band TRUD. Many other concerts will also take place in various locations around the city.
- Round tables, such as “Humor, Media, and Politics in Russia” moderated by Ziad Maalouf, a journalist at RFI, or “Being 20 in Russia Today” regarding the place of youth in Russian society.
The 5th Russian and Russian-speaking Literary Days will take over the Médiathèque 2.0 L’Echo de la Ville.
On the program: literary round tables, meetings, workshops, book signings, special sessions for young audiences, and La Librairie du Globe, which will allow for the discovery of numerous authors from Russia, Estonia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan.
Finally, interactive workshops for adults and children will also take place in partnership with the Les Trois Ourses association.
