The cost of living is rising, that’s undeniable. Proof of this, if any were needed, is that this year the fête du cinéma has gone up by €1. And yes, last year, as you can see in this post, the flat rate was €2.50. This year, it has increased to €3.50…
However, this increase has a reason, since starting this year 2013, the flat rate applies from the very first screening, without being forced, as before, to have paid a full price to obtain the famous festival pass/booklet. A desire to evolve towards more simplicity, then, and towards a system without constraints (but consequently, more expensive).
In short, since it’s still a lot cheaper than usual anyway, it’s always worth taking advantage of this celebration of the silver screen to go catch a flick (or several) almost anywhere in France.
This 2013 fête du cinéma will therefore last for 4 days; it begins today, Sunday, June 30, and will end on Wednesday, July 3.
My little (non-exhaustive) selection of films not to be missed:
- Star Trek Into Darkness (for fans of the genre or J.J. Abrams)
- Les Beaux Jours (because Fanny Ardant is a wonderful actress)
- Before Midnight (because my friend Mélanie says it’s a beautiful vision of love)
- Mud (because it’s just beautiful)
- Oh Boy (to see Berlin in black & white)
As a bonus gift for this new edition, a Grand Contest will also be organized in theaters participating in the operation, with the distribution of 4 million scratch cards that will allow you to participate in instant win games on the event’s website and perhaps win a trip, subscriptions to film magazines, or even free movie tickets!
