Next weekend, on September 15th and 16th, the Ministry of Culture and Communication is offering the public an invitation to explore and discover, with the 29th edition of the European Heritage Days.
The theme chosen this year is “Hidden Heritage: secret histories, buried treasures, backstage areas and machinery, behind the scenes…”.
For two days, the public is invited to discover heritage that is rarely accessible, sometimes little-known, and often unsuspected.
My little tip for these Heritage Days, wherever you live, is to select exceptional openings if you have the opportunity, meaning places that are not normally accessible to the public.
Mademoiselle Bon Plan’s short selection in Paris:
- The Jean-Jacques Henner National Museum is opening its winter garden to the public for the first time. This exceptional space will be the subject of a major renovation project in 2013. You will be able to discover some of the museum’s unusual treasures: Henner’s academician costume, Ingres’s armchair, Géricault’s death mask, etc.
- A visit to the Château de la Reine Blanche, which I had already mentioned in a previous article if you haven’t taken advantage of it yet.
- Most embassies open their doors, allowing you to discover magnificent Parisian private mansions. It’s the perfect opportunity to visit them!
- An exceptional discovery of the collections and craftspeople of Joaillerie Mellerio, also known as Meller, one of the oldest in the world and still held by the Mellerio family since 1613.
- An arch of the Philippe Auguste wall which allowed the Bièvre river to cross the ramparts. Uncovered in 1991, it is preserved and restored at its original location under a post office.
- The Renaissance house known as the Marie Touchet house.
- The Cinémathèque française offers a film program (The Fabulous Adventures of the Legendary Baron Munchausen, a cartoon by Jean Image, and “Un tournage à la campagne” by Alain Fleischer about the hidden side of Jean Renoir’s “Partie de Campagne”) and a discovery trail at the film library.
- Tribute to Jean Vilar at the Suresnes Theater with backstage tours, a lecture-performance, and an introduction to theater professions.
- Free tours of the stables at the Versailles Equestrian Academy, Saturday non-stop from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday non-stop from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
I hope you all enjoy these Heritage Days!
