My Favorite Hot Chocolates in Paris

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

I’ve been on a quest for several years now—the quest for the best hot chocolates to enjoy in Paris.

Unfortunately, as I started this meticulous search even before creating my blog, I obviously can’t talk about every address I’ve collected here and there. First, because I don’t remember them all, and second, because for many of them, I don’t have photos…

This whole story started with a simple observation: drinking a good hot chocolate in Paris (or anywhere else in France, actually) is a real obstacle course for a foodie like me.

Generally speaking, we are served bland drinks, watered down, which are far from what I define and believe a “hot chocolate” should be.

After that, you can add whipped cream or not, cream or whole milk, milk chocolate or dark chocolate, but in any case, the drink needs to have a minimum of consistency and flavor.

It is therefore very, very difficult in Paris to find a good hot chocolate by chance, and you often need to rely on a solid address book to get it right. The worst of the worst is often that a bad Parisian hot chocolate is barely cheaper than a good one…

It’s a bit like the same problem as with cocktails.

Anyway, here is my selection of good addresses for this in Paris.

The Hot Chocolate at Berthillon

Here is a very good and famous Parisian address for ice cream, which also serves a hot chocolate with a great price-to-quality ratio.

It was actually one of the first good addresses I discovered on this topic.

The Magic Hot Chocolate at the Blind Bar of the Maison Champs Elysées

Okay, be careful, because I am giving you a well-kept secret here, so shh, only tell your best friends.

The Maison Champs Elysées is a confidential address, hidden on Rue Goujon, a stone’s throw from the Champs Elysées, naturally, in the heart of the Golden Triangle. This 5-star hotel, beautifully designed by Martin Margiela, houses a restaurant, La Table du Huit, and the Blind Bar, which serves a real, absolutely exquisite hot chocolate.

It is served during tea time hours (and even longer, I believe) at the incredible price of €9, accompanied by small financiers. I mean, when I mentioned a real good deal, I wasn’t mincing my words…

Well, at that price and with that quality, you know where to spend your next chocolatey tea time with the girls, and you’ll look like a real gem hunter…

The Grand Cru Hot Chocolate from Pâtisserie des Rêves

This essential gourmet brand, which I’ve already mentioned several times, notably in a full article, has several locations in Paris.

It’s the ideal place to enjoy a very good hot chocolate, and for cocoa lovers, there is even a grand cru hot chocolate that is best savored without sugar to fully appreciate all its flavors.
