My Winter Shows

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

It is not always easy to keep this shows section updated regularly because some of them are not on the bill long enough for me to find the time to see them and tell you about them before the performances end. I have therefore decided to tell you about some shows in advance and add the reviews later, once I have seen them.

I have still managed to put together a small selection of shows for you in this article to see during this festive period in Paris, with a nice variety of themes as usual: humor, circus, musical comedy, cinema…

Cirque Alexis Gruss

I have already reviewed this equestrian circus on the blog several times and I was therefore delighted to discover their new show again this year!

This time, the Cirque Alexis Gruss offers us its 44th creation until March 3, 2019, under its big top at Porte de Passy: Origines. This show traces the evolution of the equestrian circus through scenes that recreate the atmosphere of each of the defining moments of its history and also pays tribute to Philip Astley, the creator of the equestrian circus.

As always, I really enjoyed this moment, even if I must say that I think the second part of the show is more entertaining and spectacular than the first, which looks more specifically at the history of the discipline and can seem a little more austere.

Réda Seddiki in “2 meters of freedom”

These are the last few days to go and discover Réda Seddiki‘s one-man show at Le Lucernaire in Paris, in his show “Two meters of freedom,” which I personally saw last August.

Flyer Rédá Seddiki

This free and spontaneous spirit takes us on a journey between Algeria, his native country, and France through a gallery of endearing characters, who push us to reflect on our society and on the notion of being a citizen of the world, to which I am very attached. A beautiful moment of poetry and escape.

LA LA LAND in film-concert at La Seine Musicale

On the program for these three live performances at La Seine Musicale, 70 musicians and 60 choristers under the exceptional direction of the film’s music composer, Justin Hurwitz, to help us relive this beautiful moment of cinema in exceptional conditions.

As we loved this film by Damien Chazelle with my favorite photographer (and especially since we listen to the music on loop during most of our road-trips), we are obviously waiting with great impatience for this moment to rediscover the mythical songs sung in the film by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.

The 130 musicians and choristers present for these performances will bring Justin Hurwitz‘s score back to life in sync with the screening of the film.

And then, icing on the cake, Damien Chazelle, the film’s director, will be the guest of honor for the three Parisian performances… A great moment in perspective…

Saloon by Cirque Eloize

I was amazed last year by the creation of Cirque Eloize (which comes to us straight from Quebec), so I was delighted to find them again this year in a very American far-west version with their new show, Saloon!

As always, music is very important in this new creation from the troupe and the folk tunes sung live by artists on stage are extremely catchy.

If you are on the lookout for a resolutely contemporary circus, this troupe will delight you with its energy, spontaneity, and freshness; at least that is what I feel every time I see them, and as always, I can only encourage you to go and discover them on stage, and in the 13th arrondissement too (my neighborhood)!
