A little outing idea if you are staying in Paris for the Christmas holidays but still feel like setting sail.

The exploration schooner Tara has been docked at the Port des Champs-Elysées, near the Pont Alexandre III (in the 8th arrondissement), since November 30th and will remain there until January 27, 2013.

Tara is in Paris: Pont Alexandre III exhibition, Nov 3, 2012 to Jan 27, 2013.

Since 2003, this boat has been traveling the oceans to better understand global warming. On the docks, a (paid) exhibition retraces the global study on plankton and the team’s missions in the Arctic.

The boat’s deck is open to the public every hour on weekends, and at 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM on weekdays. Tours are led by the Tara crew.

The schooner also offers debates, screenings, and science workshops for children, all free of charge, subject to availability, and by reservation (andre@taraexpeditions.org).
