The annual calendar is punctuated—I notice this particularly through the blog—by holidays, events, and traditions that unfailingly return on the same dates, year after year. Some of these dates are eagerly awaited by many, while others dread the arrival of these hated celebrations like the plague. This is somewhat the case for Valentine’s Day…
Here is a small selection of tips and free events set up for this celebration, plus some treats, to make the most of Friday, February 14, 2020, whether you are in a relationship or not.

A little history: Valentine’s Day dates back to the end of the Middle Ages. At the court of the King of England, February 14th was actually a holiday for singles, yes really! Men would draw lots for the name of a young lady who would become their “Valentine,” and for one week, she would receive sweet notes. It was nice, wasn’t it?

Valentine’s Day Menu at Mavrommatis
We were lucky enough with the favorite photographer to experience our Valentine’s Day in advance last week and it works out well because I will already be in Quebec and unfortunately without him next February 14th…
So we were filled with delight while going to test as a preview the Valentine’s Day menu that will be offered on February 14th at the Michelin-starred restaurant Mavrommatis. For the occasion, Andréas Mavrommatis has designed a six-course meal, to which amuse-bouches and mignardises are added.

On the agenda for this exceptional evening:
- Valentine’s Day cocktail with lychee nectar, rose liqueur, and a Greek sparkling wine
- Quail egg, celery lasagna, Greek Oscietra caviar, watercress
- ‘Constantinople-style’ artichoke, ancient root with Melanosporum truffle
- Langoustine ravioli scented with coriander, saffron bouillon from Kozáni (our favorite dish!)
- Limousin veal roasted with rosemary, pressed Kolokassi (PDO Cypriot tuber known as “Kolokasse potato”) with truffle, lemon leaf condiment, truffled veal jus
- Passion fruit “in the plural”
- The ‘Ivoire’ Grand Cru white chocolate Cherry Heart (unfortunately we could not test this dessert in advance, it will be to discover on February 14th!)
All accompanied by exceptional Greek wines that we discovered, I must say, with great happiness! Once again, Mavrommatis reminded me how Greek wine production can hide little gems, and what better Parisian ambassador than this starred restaurant that showcases Hellenic products so well.
