The Poke Bowl has been a healthy trend in Paris for a few years now. When summer arrives, it offers a double advantage: we get ready to have that dream body for the summer season (well, yes, we try…) and above all, it’s super enjoyable to eat when it’s really hot since it’s quite a fresh preparation.
I would therefore like to introduce you to several Parisian addresses that I have tested, which are specifically specialized in this traditional, colorful, and balanced dish that comes to us from Hawaii. For the backstory, a poke bowl is a recipe in which you generally find cubes of raw fish (and in Hawaiian, “poke,” which is pronounced “pokai,” actually means “cubes”), marinated in a soy-based sauce (since Japanese influence is very present on the archipelago). Obviously, in our society, which is very visual (even “Instagrammable”) and health-focused, the poke bowl has become the star of social media, and I have to admit that besides being beautiful, it is very good… It’s hard, therefore, to resist this trend…

Pokawa
The idea for Pokawa was born while traveling for Maxime and Samuel, who now have 8 Poke hut locations in Paris (including Poissonnière, Lebon, Oberkampf, and Mazarine) but also in other cities in France (Lyon, Aix-en-Provence, Bordeaux, Lille, Nice, Nantes, Clermont-Ferrand, Limoges, Grenoble, Angers, Reims, Marseille, Orléans…) and abroad (Belgium, Luxembourg), the Barakawa as they call them. Their first address, at 36 rue Poissonnière, opened in July 2017.
For my part, I went to test the Pokawa Rive Gauche located in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Près district. This small spot has about fifteen seats in a relaxed atmosphere with decor that gives the impression of being in a beach hut…

On the menu: a healthy selection in the spirit of traditional Hawaiian pokés, mainly with fish, but not only…
To try:
- In terms of poké, we tested the salmon mango poké in the small version and the red tuna pineapple poké in the large version.
- On the drink side, I liked the Charitea Mate (€3.50) and the homemade lemonade, which is super thirst-quenching (€3.90 for 50cl).
- For dessert, we took some to go (because we were actually already full) the coconut pudding with organic chia seeds (€4.20) and a chocolate mousse.

Price: Poké only €9.90 for the small and €12.90 for the large (my advice: for normal hunger, the small is sufficient, otherwise the large will satisfy the very hungry) / Poké + drink €11.90 for the small and €14.90 for the large
Thanks to Pokawa and Christophe for this invitation.

Poké Bar Madeleine
This brand, which has existed since March 2017, has three Parisian addresses and offers ultra-fresh, custom-made poke bowls on the menu. On-site, there are two possibilities: either you choose a recipe from the menu (as we did because we had zero creativity that day and wanted to go with the flow), or you customize your bowl with the ingredients of your choice, and it is prepared to order right in front of us. Thanks to a wide variety of fruits, seasonal vegetables, seeds, and seasonings, everyone is sure to be able to compose the bowl of their dreams, whether they are vegetarian, vegan, or even gluten-intolerant, which is quite nice.
The tip: in the dining room downstairs at Poké Bar Madeleine, you have unlimited lemon water, which is quite nice!

The big plus: the brand sources fresh fish exclusively from eco-responsible suppliers, labeled Fish Is Life or other equivalent guarantees, and offers eco-friendly packaging with sugar cane pulp bowls, and bamboo cutlery for the “take-away” section.
To try:
- Among the signature poke bowls, we tasted the Oahu salmon (€12.90) and the Maui sea bream (€12.90) in large portions (mini versions also exist).
- For drinks, we tested the Charitea Green (it seems to be a drink that pairs well with the detox side of the poke bowl since both brands offer it / €3.50) and the Tensaï Tea peppermint matcha tea (€3.50).
- For dessert, I really liked the two-nut and honey tart (€4), even if it’s not the best in terms of lightness, but hey, you have to treat yourself…

Poké Bar Opéra
I also tested the Poké Bar Opéra location, which has a mini terrace on which we had lunch with my friend Mathilde recently. We particularly tested the summer recipes, including the Bikini Ready (€13.90), light and energetic with royal sea bream, organic quinoa, radish, beetroot, zucchini, and citrus fruits.
The positive point: mindful of the impact of its actions and choices to preserve the planet, Poké Bar has been committed since its creation to selecting suppliers of fresh, local, and eco-responsible products by following the seasons and fishing cycles through reasoned fishing; the brand also makes a lot of efforts to aim for zero waste.

Pacifico
This brand offers a concept of Pacific cuisine (ceviche, poke, margarita) open for lunch and dinner in a holiday atmosphere. I loved the decor of this small spot, which effectively transports us into the warmth of the islands. In addition, the establishment’s menu was developed with Daniel Semprun, the chef of La Cevicheria, which gives a really tasty and high-quality result! In short, we really loved this poke and ceviche spot with my favorite photographer, and I highly recommend it!
To try: the pokes of course (€10.90); the ceviches (€9.90); for dessert, the seasonal fruit pavlova (€4.50).

Thanks to Pacifico and Josef for this invitation.

Poké Life
This small poke spot is located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, and it offers delicious pokes at very reasonable prices (€9.90 for the small poke and €11.90 for the large). You have the choice between signature pokes or you can compose your poke however you wish. The little extra of this address, which has existed for 2 years, is offering original and completely homemade sauces that were developed by a chef specifically for the restaurant! By the way, I had a big crush on the Avococo sauce (avocado, coconut milk, and lemon), which is absolutely delicious!

Atelier Poké Toké
This very nice spot located near Madeleine offers signature pokes (royal sea bream, marinated shrimp, smooth chicken…), hot pokes (pork tenderloin, Japanese-style fried chicken kaarage, lamb shank…), or even composing the poke of your dreams yourself. Particular attention is paid to the quality and freshness of the products, and you can really feel it in the bowl! As for the decor, it is also very nice and cozy, and it makes you want to sit there to enjoy your poke quietly.
For the create-your-own creations, you choose your base, one or two proteins, a sauce (special mention for the spicy sesame), four fruits or vegetables, and finally three toppings. And if, like me, you have trouble deciding (or just knowing what goes well with what), don’t hesitate to let yourself be guided by the great team of the place; they are really adorable. In short, an excellent Parisian poke address that I strongly recommend! As for drinks, the place makes freshly squeezed juices (included in the €3.50 menu) that are also super good, and the desserts are also homemade (between €2.50 and €4.20).

La Poketerie
This small poke spot, located in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, near the Le Peletier metro, offers signature poke-bowls (€9.90 for the normal version and €11.90 for the super bowl version), but also bowls to compose with 1 base, 1 protein + 3 toppings for €10.90, or super bowls with 1 base, 2 proteins + 4 toppings for €12.90. Regarding drinks, I recommend trying the homemade lemonade or iced tea (€2.90), and finally, for dessert, I really liked the pistachio tiramisu (€3.90)!
In addition to the qualitative content of the plate, I also really liked the decor of the place, and above all, there are several tables to sit and eat on-site, which is quite practical. And for those who want to work during their lunch, there are also quite a few electrical outlets everywhere (always interesting to note).

Inuï
Inuï is a chain of Parisian restaurants dedicated to poke bowls. There are currently 3 different locations for this brand in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. The particular principle of this address is that you compose your “bowl” as you please from A to Z by choosing all the ingredients.
The positive point: the cutlery (forks, chopsticks, spoons) is made of wood and the straws of cardboard so as not to have a negative impact on the planet.

Thanks to Inuï for this invitation.

Afrik’N’Bowl
This brand does not strictly offer poke bowls but revisits the concept by offering bowls with African influences, but with the same philosophy. That is to say, with the desire to prepare healthy and delicious African bowls. This restaurant chain is managed, for information, by the Afrik’N’Fusion group, which aims to promote African cuisine in France. The idea of the restaurant is also to make people discover the nutritional qualities of African products, still little known in Europe (such as fonio, cassava, or millet couscous) and to break the clichés that African cuisine is systematically rich and not adapted to a healthy diet. On the menu: hot bowls (€9.90 or €11.90 in XL) or cold (same price), with 6 signature bowls already made, but also the possibility to create your own bowl by choosing absolutely all the ingredients!
To try: for drinks, the bissap juice is very nice and sweet (€2.50), and the ginger juice (€2.50) is very, very strong in ginger—a warning to fans; as a small appetizer, we were big fans of the aloco (€3.50), fried plantains; for a cold signature bowl, I recommend the Chicken Fonio (€10.90), which we liked a lot; for dessert, I advise you to try the thiakkry mango, which is yogurt garnished with an African cereal that has a slight nutty taste.
