Autumn is already well underway, but there is still time to share my new selection of cultural outings for this autumn period.
A very varied program in this selection, as we will be talking about a few plays, music, circus, modern clowning, musicals…
And then, the icing on the cake, I managed to get you some invitations for the Sugar Sammy show presented in this article and also some musical gifts (the giveaway is at the bottom of the page for those interested and to see the terms and conditions).

This is not a romantic comedy
Pitch of the play:Chris
and Camille are the best of friends. Camille, bubbly, modern, and liberated, lives life to the fullest with men. Chris, under the influence of a narcissistic sociopath, is sinking into a toxic relationship.
This unpretentious play is very pleasant to watch, and you quickly get into the story thanks to the energy and chemistry of the two actors. The thematically romantic focus talks about love but also friendship and the choices that allow one to be happy.
It’s a nice little outing for girlfriends or friends that I recommend you go discover at Le Funambule if you are looking for a funny and dynamic play to take your mind off things, for example.

Best Allies
This play tells the stormy face-off over three days, between Churchill and de Gaulle, in June 1944, at the time of the landing of Allied troops in Normandy.

This show is particularly well written and the dialogue between these two monsters of 20th-century history is both brilliant and enlightening regarding the treatment and consequences of the Second World War. The actors’ performances contribute a lot, of course, and Pascal Racan and Michel de Warzée magnificently bring these two historical figures to life.
It is also very informative, and one takes a slightly different look at the post-war period and especially the image we have today of that era and the occupation…

Le 13ème Art, the new venue at Place d’Italie
You may not know it, but I live and work in the 13th arrondissement, very close to Place d’Italie… So you can easily imagine the joy (or should I say exhilaration!) that was mine when I learned of the opening of this venue right in the heart of my neighborhood!
For its opening, Le 13ème Art is offering two shows of choice: Cirque Eloize, which is coming to present Cirkopolis in Paris for the first time, and Thomas Monckton, who is coming to perform the irresistible burlesque show The Pianist.

I had already told you about Cirque Eloize in 2013 when they came to celebrate their 20th anniversary at the Grand Rex, and I was completely charmed.
Once again, I was thrilled by the new show from these artists from Quebec; it’s just incredible! They modernize the circus by avoiding a strict succession of acts to present a set of coherent scenes (and remarkable virtuosity) within an extremely poetic universe! In short, I cannot recommend enough that you go before the end of the run, it’s magical!

Cirque Eloize
New show Cirkopolis
From October 5 to 29, 2017 at 13ème Art
From Tuesday to Saturday at 9 PM, also Wednesday and Saturday at 4 PM, and Sunday at 3 PM
Prices: from €32
After playing to sold-out houses at the biggest festivals around the world, Tom Monckton is setting down his piano in Paris for the first time. Alone on stage, this genius of burlesque (and acrobat/contortionist), somewhere between Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, composes a modern and terribly funny visual symphony.
Not a word is spoken during the one-hour show of this artist (alone on stage or almost…), and yet this modern clown, who draws from the classical repertoire, very clearly tells us the adventures of this slightly zany pianist.

The Pianist by Thomas Monckton
From October 11 to November 12, 2017
From Wednesday to Saturday at 7 PM, also Saturday at 2 PM and Sunday at 5 PM
Prices: from €14

West Side Story
The musical West Side Story, a great Broadway classic, will be performed at La Seine Musicale, the new complex on the Île Seguin, starting tomorrow, for the sixtieth anniversary of its creation. Because it was exactly on September 26, 1957, that the premiere of this legendary musical took place.

I don’t know if you remember, but I already had the opportunity to see this play on stage in 2012 at the Théâtre du Châtelet, and you can find my review from that time just here.
It is a unique production that presents the original choreography by Jerome Robbins, with a new cast accompanied by an orchestra of 21 musicians led by Donald Chan, an iconic musical director and conductor of West Side Story, and 32 actor-singer-dancers auditioned on Broadway.

From October 12 to November 12, 2017

Yannick Bourdelle a(nd) Robert Lamoureux
In a revisited cabaret, Yannick Bourdelle pays tribute to this true genius jack-of-all-trades and reveals the strength of a star character, the #1 comedian in France in the 50s, a brilliant precursor to today’s stand-up.
It’s a journey through time that we are invited to. From his beginnings at the Musical Hall in 1949 to his Molière nominations in the 90s, we get an overview of 50 years of an exceptional and little-known career. We meet De Funès, Guitry, Piaf…
