With the start of the year, movie deals are flooding into French cinemas. Since I’m kind, I’ve put together a quick summary of these offers for you.
The UGC Must-Sees:
UGC and Le Figaro are offering us, just like last year, a little catch-up session for the best films released on screens in 2012. It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on any films you might have missed at the theater last year, or to see the ones you loved all over again.
The UGC Must-Sees allow you, from January 9th to 15th, 2013, to see or re-see 29 films that defined the 2012 cinematic year in 21 UGC theaters across France, for a single price of 3 euros.
To take advantage of this preferential rate, simply present your UGC loyalty card, your UGC Unlimited card, or a Figaro coupon (available in Le Figaro on Jan 08 and 12, Le Figaroscope on Jan 09, Le Figaro Magazine on Jan 11, and Madame Figaro on Jan 11, 2013).
The films (with those I recommend in bold if you haven’t seen them yet):
- The Acacias (a wonderful film I saw in Cannes)
- Louise Wimmer
- Take Shelter
- The Descendants
- Detachment
- Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
- Bullhead
- Oslo, August 31st
- Farewell, My Queen
- Barbara
- Margin Call
- Moonrise Kingdom (because I love Wes Anderson’s universe)
- Rust and Bone (because Audiard is certainly one of the best French directors)
- Cairo 678
- Granny’s Funeral
- The Angels’ Share
- My Way
- Monsieur Lazhar
- Camille Rewinds
- Populaire
- Amour (Because it’s the latest Palme d’Or winner from the Cannes Film Festival)
- Skyfall (James!!!!!)
- Argo (Ben Affleck’s great surprise, who is particularly good when he directs himself!)
- Augustine
- Rengaine
- Thérèse Desqueyroux
- Beyond the Hills
- Beasts of the Southern Wild
- Télé Gaucho
Cinema week at Gaumont Pathé:
Gaumont Pathé cinemas in France (and theaters affiliated with the brand) are also offering an exceptional and unique reduced rate of 5 euros per ticket from Wednesday, January 9th to Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 inclusive.
This promotion will be valid for all films and all showtimes, provided you present an activated Gaumont Pathé loyalty card (card free upon request in Gaumont cinemas).
As usual, showtimes with 3D glasses and IMAX will require paying a supplement… Previews are also not covered by this offer.
The 2013 Télérama cinema pass:
From January 16th to 22nd, 2013, you can enjoy movie tickets for 3 euros with the Télérama pass found in the January 9th and 16th, 2013 issues of the magazine.
In total, 15 films selected by Télérama’s film editorial team—and for the first time, a film for young audiences—will be screened for 7 days in 228 theaters across France, in Paris (21), the suburbs (30), and the regions (177).
All that’s left for me to do is wish you a happy 2013 cinematic year!
