I share many events on the blog, but if there is one that I particularly love, it is the European Heritage Days, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Communication.
This year, these Days, which will take place on the weekend of Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st, 2014, will have the theme “Natural Heritage, Cultural Heritage”.
In parallel with these days, the 3rd edition of the Heritage Week will take place from September 15th to September 21st in the Ile-de-France region and will be centered on the theme of memory and the reconversion of heritage.

- On Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st, Bercy Village celebrates the European Heritage Days and offers 3 free guided tours (including 2 new ones) by the Percevoir association, to help visitors discover its history, its heritage (notably winemaking, as a former “cellar of the world”), and the nature that surrounds it. The perfect opportunity for an original family outing, between a lyrical performance and an unusual tour!

- The Irish Cultural Center offers activities from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
– Guided tours of the Heritage Library and presentation of the three illuminated manuscripts dating back to the Middle Ages, true treasures of our collection.
– Free visit to the Saint Patrick’s Chapel, a unique 18th-century chapel completely restored in the early 2000s
– Free access to the Media Library, a resource center that gathers over 7,000 documents dedicated to contemporary Ireland, its history, and its culture
– Free visit of the Corpus exhibitions by artist Amanda Coogan and Hospice and Charity: The Lazarists at the Irish College, 1858-1945
– Screening of two documentaries by Irish-American Arthur MacCaig at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM
– Colloquiums and a debate on the conversion/reuse of heritage in the Paris region

- As part of the Heritage Days, Paris-Story will be free. It will be the perfect opportunity to discover the new film imagined by Community featuring images by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, in which you can appreciate an unusual, secret, and unseen side of Paris.

- For the occasion, the Musée de l’Homme is opening its construction site doors to the public for exceptional tours, allowing you to discover the Institution by visiting the areas currently being finished, on September 20th and 21st from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

- As part of the 31st European Heritage Days, France Stratégie (an organization attached to the Prime Minister) is exceptionally opening the doors of the Hôtel de Vogüé (a 19th-century private mansion) and will also present two exhibitions for the occasion.

- Because it is one of my favorite Parisian cultural spots, I must tell you that, of course, you can take advantage of these heritage days to visit the Musée du Quai Branly and see, for example, the Tiki Pop exhibition that I already mentioned in a previous article.

- The exhibition Hanoi in Colors, 1914-1917: autochromes from the Archives of the Planet, presented at the Cité internationale Universitaire of Paris, gathers 60 autochromes commissioned from the French photographer Léon Busy by the banker and philanthropist Albert Kahn for his Archives of the Planet. Produced in Hanoi from 1914 to 1917, these color snapshots provide a fascinating testimony on old Vietnam; this exhibition is offered as part of the France-Vietnam Year organized by the Institut français, after having been presented in Hanoi in 2013.
On the occasion of the 31st European Heritage Day, bicycle taxi shuttles will be set up between the entrance of the city and the exhibition. The food truck La caravane dorée and the chocolate makers Marou will also welcome visitors (central roundabout of the Cité internationale, the main pavilion of the Cité).

- You can also take advantage of these days to discover the new museography of the permanent exhibition Repères (Landmarks) of the Museum of the History of Immigration, at the Palais de la Porte Dorée which reopens on September 16th.

- To beautifully celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Grande Galerie de l’Évolution, the National Museum of Natural History is partnering with 6 essential cultural institutions in Paris: the Cluny Museum, the Eugène-Delacroix Museum, the Louvre Museum, the Orsay Museum, the Petit Palais, and the Palais d’Iéna (Economic, Social and Environmental Council).
Starting from this European Heritage Days weekend, and until December 2014, the Museum and these museums are creating a surprising trail through Paris by hosting several taxidermied specimens, thus sparking a dialogue between art collections and scientific collections.

- After a year of absence, the Gaumont Museum, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is reopening its doors on Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st for an opening that remains exceptional because the Museum’s access is usually reserved for researchers, editors, students, directors…
On the program:
presentation of the collection relating to the 1914 war and concerning natural heritage with a highlight on hero animals that are often forgotten or unknown.
A tour commented by the Museum team will be offered to visitors and will present, among other things, the first sound and color devices, the radio from the trenches of the 14 war; the aerial photography cameras of the same era but also the star animals of films such as: Belle, the dog from Sébastien, Picasso the dog from Zorg, the poster for My Cow and Me, and that of The Science of Sleep.
The Gaumont Museum, a private museum, preserves, restores, and promotes the collections built up over 119 years by the Company with the Daisy, the world’s oldest film company.
