The Fête de la Gastronomie (an event I have been covering since its very first edition) will take place this year on Friday, September 23rd, Saturday, September 24th, and Sunday, September 25th, 2016.
The theme of this 6th edition revolves around “Popular Cuisines” and highlights the values of sharing, passing on traditions, and living together.

Numerous events are planned all over France and abroad!
On the program: a great variety of local events, such as popular banquets, picnics, tastings, special menus in restaurants and school cafeterias, business or farm tours, exhibitions, conferences, and street entertainment.
I also advise you to take a close look at the program for the event to make the most of these days and find events happening near you.
Melle Bon Plan’s small selection in Paris (and beyond…):
The International Village of Gastronomy
For three days, along the banks of the Seine (between the Pont des Invalides and the Pont de l’Alma), you can discover flavors from over 40 countries across 5 continents, share world dishes, and learn new recipes.
We will notably find Daniel Renaudie, chef of the restaurant Else, who will showcase Israeli cuisine, and the Que Gusto Festival, which will highlight Mexican cuisine (which is of particular interest to me because, a little teaser, I am leaving for Mexico in about two weeks!).
There will also be concerts and shows by the best international world music artists. Each stand will also offer dishes and an introduction to table arts.

There will also be one-hour gourmet and musical cruises on the Seine, via Vedettes de Paris, for a river journey close to the monuments of Paris.
The brand Lesieur will, for example, showcase its new products, notably MayoDuo, with demonstrations by Chef Clément, accompanied by tastings and classes on how to make or enhance a mayonnaise with global flavors.

The Charity Banquet at the Jardin Municipal
Tous à Table and the Crédit Municipal de Paris have imagined a short-lived and surprising culinary gathering to celebrate the closing evening of the Jardin Municipal (which I mentioned in my selection of summer terraces), taking place during the Fête de la Gastronomie.

On the program: a 3-course menu featuring 3 chefs (Julien Kerwien, Sébastien Dubrulle, and Christophe Boucher).
Additionally, the profits from these dinners will be donated to Tous à Table to allow them to multiply their initiatives for the social reintegration of people in difficulty through the discovery of quality cuisine.
The charity plan: nearly 100 guests, beneficiaries of partner associations, will be invited to the Charity Banquet and will only pay 10% of their meal.

Culinary Fine Arts in Normandy
Organized by IRQUA-Normandie, Flyin’Chef, and their partners, the experience aims to be a bridge between culinary art and pictorial art.
Thus, 35 Norman chefs will create a recipe based on an impressionist painting. Their mission is to elevate the Norman heritage and help people (re)discover the region’s flavors. Each Chef will then stand at the foot of the painting where a mobile kitchen will be set up and explain to visitors the reasons for choosing their painting and the associated recipe. At the same time, a museum mediator will explain the history of the painting.

Olivier Barbarin, Chef of the “Le Seran” restaurant at the Hôtel Château d’Audrieu, took up the challenge and chose the painting “Le Soleil Couchant” (The Setting Sun) by Antoine Lebel as his source of inspiration. He will present the result on September 24th at 4:30 PM at the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Caen.

To the market with the Chef from Château d’Audrieu
“Let’s go to the market with the Chefs” is an operation organized on the initiative of Relais & Châteaux as part of the Fête de la Gastronomie. On this occasion, Olivier Barbarin, the Chef of Château d’Audrieu in Normandy, will cook outdoors this Sunday, September 25th in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, at the corner of avenue de Trudaine and rue des Martyrs.
Each portion will be sold at a symbolic price of €2, and the profits from sales and derivative products will be donated to A.N.D.E.S (the National Association for the Development of Solidarity Grocery Stores).

The ‘Tous au Restaurant’ Operation!
The Tous au Restaurant event, launched for the first time in June 2010 on the initiative of chef Alain Ducasse and Laurent Plantier, is the must-attend event for restaurateurs and the general public.
This year, it runs from September 19th to October 2nd, 2016, with the desire to open restaurants to the widest possible audience, Tous au Restaurant! returns with “Your guest is our guest,” the formula that made the event successful.
Thus, in over 1,000 participating establishments, the restaurateur will offer the Tous au Restaurant menu, consisting of an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert, to the second guest.
The tip: Table reservations can only be made via the Tous au Restaurant website, and I advise you to act now because the event is always very popular.

In Paris, some very nice addresses are participating in this operation, including the La Coupole restaurant, which I mentioned very recently, and which offers you to discover the “Joséphine” menu at €59 concocted by chef Vakhtang Meliava.

All that remains is for me to wish you a happy Fête de la Gastronomie, my readers who are food lovers!
