It had been a while since I went looking for new burger spots… But Captain B wasn’t exactly a new find for me, as I had been wanting to go there to try their burgers for quite some time.
This cozy diner with a comic-book theme, specializing in burgers, is located in the famous Parisian “SoPi” (South Pigalle) neighborhood, right below the Sacré Coeur, in the heart of the 9th arrondissement.
As with most of the spots I recommend, the burgers are homemade, using fresh ingredients.
But the real innovation here is offering gluten-free and vegetarian burgers on the menu with unique, original recipes.
The gluten-free (and therefore bun-less) burgers created by the Chef:
- The Big Forest, with a 100% Charolais beef patty, 2 large Portobello mushrooms replacing the traditional bun, and goat cheese wrapped in bacon (€16).
- The Avocado burger, with fresh avocado enveloping a soy patty (or a regular beef patty if you’re a carnivore), topped with cucumber, tomato, and seasoned with Boursin cream (€16).
- The Eggplant burger, with a roasted round eggplant slice topped with melted mozzarella, a Charolais beef patty, and fresh basil leaves with homemade pesto (€16).
These burgers are served with veggie chips or a salad and raw vegetables, making them perfect for a slightly lighter lunch or just a fresh option for the summer season.
My advice: these burgers are best enjoyed in the summer (when it’s too hot to eat a heavy burger) or during times when you’re being particularly mindful of what you’re eating, like when going gluten-free or vegan.
Must-try:
- Little mozzarella sticks as a starter (x4 for €6 / x6 for €8 / x8 for €10), simply amazing, enjoyed with a Brooklyn beer (€6).
- The classic bacon cheeseburger, simple and with gluten, but very effective (€16), served with fries or salad.
- Super indulgent desserts like the Oreo tiramisu (€7), the cookie burger (€8), or their homemade waffles.
The little extra: the lovely wooden terrace for sunny days in front of the restaurant.
