Jodhpur Palace, Indian gastronomy

You know how much I love traveling through food and gastronomy? It is one of the themes that I am passionate about when I am traveling, and I am always hungry for discoveries in this area. It was therefore a real trip to India (a mini one, okay, but still!) that we took with the favorite photographer by going to lunch at Jodhpur Palace, an Indian restaurant located in the Coulée Verte district, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. We discovered this restaurant in 2018 and went back for a 2nd test in January 2023.

This institution of Indian cuisine, which has existed for over 20 years, was completely redecorated in 2016 and now offers a pleasant, bright, and luminous atmosphere. To continue this revival, a new chef, Jagdeep Singh, originally from Delhi, arrived at the restaurant in 2018. He has worked in several palaces around the world, in Kuala Lumpur and Thailand, and his menu is inspired by royal recipes from Jodhpur and Northern India.

To taste:

  • Personally, I love the Lassi (between €5 and €6), this Indian drink based on yogurt which can be flavored.
Two colorful fruit juices, bright pink and orange, served with straws.
  • Before the main courses, you are brought crispy Indian crackers based on lentil flour with cumin (papad or papadum) and an assortment of 3 sauces (spicy and non-spicy) to garnish the meal.
  • For a starter, if you are very hungry or in a large group, you can share the mixed Tandoori grill (€21) which offers a mixture of pieces of chicken, lamb, and seekh kabab. Regarding vegetarian starters, we liked the vegetarian samosa (€6), and the Jodhpur special Paneer (a homemade and fried cheese) is indeed particular but worth testing if you are curious (€9).

  • For the main course, I tested the shrimp Biryani (€19), a dish based on 20 spices with basmati rice, accompanied by its delicious sauce. For his part, the favorite photographer opted for a chicken tikka masala (€15) accompanied by spiced basmati rice (€3.50). In 2023, we tested 2 other dishes: the lamb rogan josh (€16), one of the chef’s specialties, visibly with spices from Kashmir, and a vegetarian dish, also the paneer butter masala (€14).
  • Obviously, to accompany your dishes you must take a Nan (€2.50), these homemade Indian breads made with white flour or whole wheat flour and cooked in a Tandoor. You can also try variations like the cheese nan with cheese (€5), the garlic nan with garlic (€5), or even the nan masala with vegetables and spices (€4.50).
  • For dessert, we tested a semolina cake with dried fruits, Halwa suji (€6), and a homemade Indian ice cream with pistachios and cardamom, the Kulfi (€7).
  • To finish the meal, we tasted another specialty instead of the usual coffee, the Indian tea with milk and cardamom (€5). It’s a sure thing that we take on each of our visits!

The little extra: when we went to test the restaurant in 2018 (a Sunday), there was a traditional Indian music concert during lunchtime, and it was really very nice.

As a bonus, this address was a good excuse to continue our video format for the blog’s YouTube channel with 1-minute restaurant test videos.

Thanks to Jodhpur Palace for these beautiful invitations and to the musicians for enchanting us with their music in 2018.
