Tips for Epiphany

Every holiday is a great excuse for great deals, as you’ve probably gathered; then again, neither I, nor you for that matter, are going to complain about it.

Epiphany, as a quick reminder, is a Christian holiday that celebrates the arrival of the incarnate Messiah and the visit paid to him by the Three Wise Men. This year, the holiday falls on January 6, 2014.

But let’s be honest, for most of us, it mainly means gathering and sharing a delicious king cake (galette des rois), with the chance (or not) of ending this convivial moment crowned as royalty if you were lucky enough to avoid choking on the fève (charm) (I think you know exactly what I mean now).

An exceptional Epiphany at the Casinos Barrière

Epiphany promotional poster: king cake, throne, VIP gains, and casino. To celebrate Epiphany, the Casinos Barrière are offering future Kings or Queens for a day the chance to win an exceptional prize worth €1,500!

The prize: 1 “shopping” day with a personal driver and €1,000 to spend in the boutiques of your choice, a complimentary dinner, and an evening at the casino with €500 in chips to play with!

The concept: From January 2 to 5, 2014, several charms will be hidden in cakes, offered either for sale or as free giveaways to customers. The “Keys” charm will win you this famous “Royal” shopping day, and the “Clover” charm will win you a glass of champagne.

Free king cake in Levallois

Free 2014 King Cake in Levallois, Saturday, January 11 at 5 p.m.The town of Levallois is indeed offering its residents (and only them, take note) a free distribution of king cakes next Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 5 p.m. at the City Hall.

However, the distribution will be subject to available stock and only upon prior registration with Levallois Information (phone: 01 47 15 75 15).

A very nice initiative that we would love to see adopted by all towns, wouldn’t we?

The Tropézienne Crown for Epiphany

If you want to surprise people for Epiphany, I suggest bringing a Tarte Tropézienne to your friends’, especially since, for this holiday, the famous dessert comes in a Tropézienne Crown version (a brioche crown filled with the famous Tropézienne cream) with a lovely porcelain charm inside.

The Brioche des Rois and The Tropézienne Crown are available from Saturday, December 28, 2013, to Sunday, January 12, 2014, in the La Tarte Tropézienne boutiques in Paris (3 rue de Montfaucon 75006 Paris) and Place des Lices, in Saint-Tropez.

The classic version of the King Cake

Obviously, if you want to stick with the classics, you can find frangipane, apple, or who-knows-what king cakes just about everywhere; they will be filling the shelves.

For my part, I don’t know yet which one I’m going to go for, but I’m certain it will be delicious… I’ve put together a small photo selection of the ones tempting me.
