Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 20th, we will be celebrating the 7th annual International Macaron Day, organized in France and abroad at the initiative of pastry chef Pierre Hermé in collaboration with Relais Dessert (bringing together the best pastry chefs in France and around the world).
This gourmet celebration aims this year to raise funds and raise awareness for autism, which was recently named a Great National Cause.
A partner of this 7th edition of Macaron Day, the association Autistes Sans Frontières strives to help families and children with autism to optimize their chances of progress and offer them real prospects for the future.
With this in mind, a portion of the revenue generated during Macaron Day by Pierre Hermé Paris boutiques will be donated to the association to fund school integration programs for autistic children.
Unlike previous years, where in every Pierre Hermé boutique in Paris you were entitled to 3 macarons in exchange for a donation, this year the motto is: “one donation, one macaron“.
So, it’s a scaled-back campaign this year, which I think is a real shame, because when you consider that a Pierre Hermé macaron costs about €1.80, you don’t really see how this day is special aside from the good cause associated with it.
I find it particularly disappointing because I was really looking forward to participating in this event as I have in previous years.
If you happen to pass by a boutique this year, treat yourself anyway and form your own opinion. Not to mention that for me, Pierre Hermé macarons remain among the best in the capital.
In Japan, Maison Pierre Hermé Paris is also hosting “Macaron Day,” which will take place on June 20th, the day of the 2012 summer solstice.
