Yoom Dim Sum Batignolles

Last summer, I introduced you on the blog to our favorite Yoom Dim Sum restaurants (3 locations in Paris) after our visit to the Yoom Martyrs location. This winter, we did it again with our favorite photographer, visiting Yoom Batignolles to discover even more of the wonderful menu these great Parisian addresses have to offer. As a quick reminder, dim sum are small Asian delicacies—bites that can be savory or sweet, and steamed, stir-fried, poached, or roasted.

At Yoom, they are obviously all entirely homemade using fresh ingredients and, above all, folded by hand using the traditional Chinese method. It’s important to mention this, as it helps explain and justify the price, which is inevitably much higher than in a restaurant where you might be served frozen dim sum… Here, everything is fresh, refined, and the restaurant offers an extremely varied range of flavors and textures. In the Asian tradition, the idea here is to order several types of dim sum (about 4 types per person, I’d say) which are placed in the center of the table to be shared by everyone. I really like this way of eating; it’s social and allows you to try more different things.

To try:

  • Since it was the holiday season, we took the opportunity to try the three new Christmas dim sum: mozzarella and black truffle dim sum (€7.50 for 2 pieces), pan-fried gyoza with goose foie gras (€7.50 for 2 pieces), and Brittany lobster dim sum (€10 for 2 pieces).
  • Among the grilled dim sum, we tested the Peking ravioli with pork and scallions (2 pieces – €5).
  • This time we tried the “baozi” brioche with lacquered pork (1 piece – €5.20), as we had tried the vegetable ones last time.
  • As a side, we opted for the Thai red curry soup (quite spicy if you like that) with two shrimp dumplings (€5.70).
  • Don’t miss the desserts, which are also delicious. You can try the dim sum with lemon cream (2 pieces – €5.60) or the grilled apple ravioli with caramel, which are a total treat (2 pieces – €6.20).

I also recommend you order some tea (between €4.50 and €5 per teapot) to accompany your dim sum, since these bites were originally invented to pair with this ancient beverage…
