The new menu at Maria Magdalena (closed)

Maria Magdalena is the cocktail spot of the Maselli brothers (whom I had already mentioned in a previous article), who, after the success of Fourbi, went to squat in the 9th Parisian arrondissement, on rue de la Rochefoucauld.

From 10 PM onwards, the place is always packed with regulars and visitors in search of new venues. That was the case for me the first time I landed at Maria Magdalena, thrown there by the Urban Decay Make Up Van and the wise advice of My Little Paris, following a test of one of my beauty tips, which I had shared with you right here!

The place resembles a poetic jewel box with Latin inspirations, featuring Moorish patterns and a dreamy, wanderlust soul, like those little paper butterflies perched on the ceiling and the few books that open and close just above our heads…

The decor of this two-story venue (downstairs there is a cool smoking room with a swing) comes from the imagination of designers Dorothée Flageollet and her collaborator Valentine, as well as the ‘Petits Papiers’ by Marjorie Colas.

In short, it is the perfect spot for a chic drink of high quality in a trendy yet laid-back atmosphere.

But this time, it was to test the establishment’s new menu and the fusion cuisine prepared by the new chef from Belfast, Victoria McGarvey, that we returned to spend an evening in this cool spot that I like very much.

Must try:

  • For starters, we shared the feta and Thai basil spring rolls (€13) and the homemade smoked eggplant caviar (€11), which is simply amazing! A must-try!

  • For the main course, my favorite photographer set his sights on the crispy pork belly with spices, Japanese rice, and tonkatsu sauce (125g €11 / 225g €18).

  • For my part, I tried the sweet potato waffle with avocado and organic egg (€12).

Waffle, fried egg with chives, and guacamole with sprouts on a decorated plate.

  • To finish, I caved (you know my weakness) for Juju’s almond tiramisu (€7). It was very nice, but perhaps a tad too sweet for my taste…
