The 13th arrondissement would be quite sad without this lively bar to welcome me in the evening, with its bric-a-brac decor and a great wine list from independent winemakers, all set to the upbeat rhythm of a deliciously retro musical selection.
I also really enjoy taking advantage of this spot on Sunday afternoons for a very hearty brunch.
L´Age d´Or is a living space; you start your day with lunch, in the afternoon you choose one of the many scented teas while reading on the terrace, at happy hour you grab a charcuterie board, and in the evening you savor one of the tempting dishes prepared with products from small producers (confit pork cheek with sautéed carrots, parsnip remoulade with marinated salmon…).
You can keep the party going until 2 AM and treat yourself to an always friendly wine list (I often order a Viognier, a delicious round and floral white wine at €3.80) and all this good humor is always at very affordable prices.
Besides, if I’m hesitant about my choice of wine, the server kindly lets me taste the wines and gives me sound advice.
L´Age d´Or, like a tireless friend, also welcomes me on the hard mornings after festive nights for its tasty, varied, and hearty buffet brunch for 20 euros, served until 3 PM.
All the dishes look appealing (more than a dozen of them!): the savory cake, small mushrooms with shrimp, salads in every form, tomato omelet, melty cheeses, slices of chorizo, fruit, cakes…
It’s a bit cluttered, but you quickly forgive this friendly little shop. Hats off to the chef who managed to create a voluminous number of varied dishes while maintaining their quality of flavor. Quantity and quality go hand in hand at this restaurant-bar.
In conclusion, as you will have gathered, you feel good in this joyful, quirky guinguette where you can find a nice warm spot at any time of day under a swinging and mischievous tune by Chinese Man.
