A selection of chocolates for Christmas

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

Christmas is almost here and, as you may have noticed, I’m publishing more and more articles on this theme. Today, I’m going to make your mouth water (well, I hope so…) with my selection of chocolates to enjoy during the festive season. Because personally, I think one of the great pleasures of this holiday period is definitely the culinary one. It’s the perfect occasion to treat our taste buds and eyes with refined delicacies, often more expensive than what we usually eat. But hey, these are special moments, and we should know how to enjoy them! What would Christmas be without a few sweet treats based on chocolate or other delicacies… I dare not imagine it… Here is a selection—obviously not exhaustive—of chocolatey sweets and treats for the holidays!

For his 2024 Christmas collection, the famous chocolatier is bringing back the Chamboule-tout (knock-down) game, featuring a Madagascar chocolate pea tin at the center.

The famous Parisian chocolatier, founded in 1977, is committed to traceable cocoa sourcing all the way to the producer. Their chocolates are free from artificial colors, flavorings, GMOs, and palm oil. The brand also offers eco-designed packaging and is dedicated to optimizing its wrapping. Furthermore, all their boxes are 100% recyclable (excluding the ribbon).

This 2025 Christmas collection, centered on the theme of “Paris Eternel,” was illustrated by the duo Alex & Marine. The result: a Paris of fine lines and free-flowing strokes where monuments blend with vegetation and building facades are intertwined with cocoa pods. This year, La Maison du Chocolat celebrates the living architecture of Paris with its perspectives, rhythms, and metamorphoses. For 2025, the two Christmas edition chocolates are a praliné almond-hazelnut with roasted rice bits coated in milk chocolate, and a 77% dark chocolate ganache, pure origin Vanuatu.

_

In this collection, Nicolas Cloiseau offers unusual, unexpected, and innovative pairings. And for the holidays, there’s nothing like matching the briny notes of an oyster with those of dark chocolate. A surprising combination to discover!

_

In 2024, chef Nicolas Cloiseau offers an odyssey about travel and desires for far-off lands, centered around the compass rose and the four cardinal points. It includes a unique artistic piece produced in only about ten copies, entirely handmade. To taste: the rose-of-the-winds bite (€30 each) filled with an almond-hazelnut praline; the Christmas boxes with assortments of La Maison du Chocolat chocolates (ranging from €36 to €150).

_

In 2023, Nicolas Cloiseau was fascinated by the geometric nature of snowflakes, and the collection that year was immersed in a frosty nature theme. Included: the very limited edition “Flocon de Neige” (Snowflake) artistic piece (€2,800 / size 7.9kg); “Flocon de neige” praline bites (€30 each); Christmas gift boxes that include the signature recipes and 2 new 2023 creations: a 72% dark ganache from Haiti and a corn praline with crushed roasted corn bits (24 pieces €34 / 40 pieces €52 / 60 pieces €76 / 112 pieces €140).

In 2022, Nicolas Cloiseau presented a juxtaposition of gifts—tall, long, round—including, as every year, an artistic piece called “Sapin Vertige de Cadeaux.” The chocolate boxes were decked out in green and red. For this collection, La Maison du Chocolat was committed to responsible sourcing, but also to manufacturing eco-designed packaging with 100% recyclable boxes made in France and Belgium.

This year, chef Nicolas Cloiseau brings us a festive collection: “BOULEversante, boule de Noël” with a play of piercing and light in trompe-l’œil.

On the program: a limited edition “bouleversante” Yule log (€120) with Solliès fig, 69% Sao Tome pure origin chocolate, and almond praline; Christmas ball ornaments with chocolate and dried fruits (€28); the “Bouleversant” Christmas box with a 100% recyclable cardboard container (starting at €30 for the 24-piece box); the BOULEversante de Noël, a limited edition artistic piece entirely handmade (€2,000).

I am a fan of this French brand (established in Château-Gontier in Mayenne, existing since 1954)! The family adventure started with a bakery/pastry shop. Like every year, I am charmed by their little chocolate subjects, which are so cute!

The extra touch: Réauté chocolates are made in France, in the brand’s workshop in Château-Gontier sur Mayenne, and they are guaranteed to be palm oil-free and with 100% pure cocoa butter couverture chocolate.

_

In 2024, in addition to Réauté treats, I also received this cute Réauté plush toy shaped like a Christmas Reindeer. Otherwise, regarding eatables, I tasted the Christmas spice shortbread (€7.95); the fantastic elf filled with small butter cookies coated in milk chocolate (€6.40); the multicolored pic’ o choc’, butter shortbread cookies coated in milk chocolate; Félicien the little dark chocolate elf; a tree molding in milk chocolate.

In 2023 I received the Christmas Manneles (€18), this tradition straight from Alsace. It includes a large milk chocolate mannele and a small white chocolate one on a dark chocolate base. I also tested the Cozy Christmas box (€11.50) which is the perfect gourmet gift to put at the foot of the tree! Inside were two wrapped bags with fleur de sel dark chocolate squares and milk caramel chip squares, as well as the Cozy Christmas ball that can be reused as Christmas decor after eating the chocolates.

This gourmet tradition that dates back to my childhood is in a way my own ‘madeleine de Proust’. When I was little, every Christmas, my grandmother would offer me a box of Lanvin milk chocolate snails, and this tradition still continues today! I always ate them very slowly (no more than one a day) so they would last as long as possible. This house, which has existed for over 80 years now, remains for me the inimitable Christmas praline chocolate.
