Lunch with Scandinavian notes at Le Fumoir

Le Fumoir is the legendary spot by Swedish chef Henrik Andersson, located just next to the Louvre Rivoli metro station. It is a well-known address for Parisians, and one I had heard about from a colleague who had made it her go-to spot when she was a student at the École du Louvre.

The venue is as cozy and welcoming as can be, with its soft sofas and a library corner filled with books that you can browse at your leisure at the very back of the establishment.

As for the food, you will always find Scandinavian touches in the chef’s healthy and creative cuisine, which pays homage to his Swedish roots.

Quite honestly, my favorite photographer and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality and finesse of the food at this Parisian institution that has been around for many years. It is an address I highly recommend you try at least once!

To taste:

  • For a starter, the Smørrebrød (the quintessential Danish sandwich) here featuring pan-seared marinated sardines with a confit egg yolk and horseradish, all served on sourdough bread (€12)… It is just super good!

Slice of dark bread, rillettes, raw egg yolk, and dill.

  • Another very good starter is the mackerel ceviche with zucchini, roasted hazelnuts, and a harissa vinaigrette (€12).

  • For the main course, I tested a vegetarian dish because it really tempted me: the pea ravioli with parmesan, truffle oil, and mushrooms (€18), and I wasn’t disappointed; it was delicious!

  • The favorite photographer tried the catch of the day (€18), which was a salmon with a very smoky flavor if I recall correctly…

  • For dessert, we tried the chocolate terrine with cherry sorbet and almond crumble (€9), which I especially recommend to chocolate lovers.

  • As for me, I had a terrible craving to try the greengage plum compote with bay leaf and black pepper ice cream and an oat crumble (€9), and my intuition was right because it was absolutely divine!

  • I also noticed that the establishment offers a nice selection of wines by the glass (between €5.20 and €10) or by the carafe, which is always pleasant.

A little extra: a beautiful terrace facing the colonnades of the Louvre Museum for sunny days.
