The great strength and magic of blogs is discovery. That’s how I found myself for the first time, a bit naively I must admit, at the Mavrommatis restaurant without really knowing what I would find there… Of course, I knew it was about Greek cuisine and gastronomy, but that was about all. I was expecting certain clichés, I thought I knew Greek culinary culture, and I learned that day that nothing could be further from the truth. It feels like my taste buds were opened to a whole new vision of Greek cuisine!
The Maison Mavrommatis is, above all, a family of Cypriot origin, and since 1981, it has been a reference in the field of Mediterranean cuisine in Paris. Mainly anchored in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, Mavrommatis owns no less than 4 restaurants in the capital, a catering service, a wine cellar, and fine grocery boutiques. The products are carefully selected by Andreas Mavrommatis himself, who travels the roads of Greece several times a year in search of exceptional dishes and flawless quality from the best artisans.
Below, I propose to present the various Parisian addresses of the Mavrommatis house that I have had the opportunity to test over the last few years (and I will obviously update this article regularly with my new tests).

The Mavrommatis Gastronomic Restaurant
The gastronomic restaurant of the Mavrommatis house truly stands as the ambassador of Hellenic cuisine in Paris. I have had the opportunity to eat there three times. The first time was in 2017 before it earned its Michelin Guide star in 2018. The restaurant also has a rating of 15/20 in the Gault & Millau. The second time was in 2020 with my favorite photographer for an unforgettable special Valentine’s Day dinner, and finally once again in 2025! Between the first meal and the two following, the decor of the place has changed a lot, and I really like the new cozy and intimate atmosphere of the restaurant. I was particularly surprised and charmed by the welcome, always impeccable during each of my visits, and I would even say warm, as if we were part of the family. This is quite rare in Paris to be noted and appreciated.

My 2017 lunch:
- As a starter, I recommend sharing a Mezédès Discovery dish (€22) to taste several things. There are 2 versions (Alpha and Beta), and we tested the Alpha, which includes a spiced tuna carpaccio with hummus and small vegetables, mackerel dolmades with dried fruits in a spiced honey jus, and a thin pissaladière tart with obsiblue shrimp, Colonnata bacon, and basil pesto.
- Another classic starter of the house is the grilled octopus, artichoke, celery, and grilled-marinated peppers (€21), to be reserved for enthusiasts of this kind of dish, as it is true that octopus is a rather particular delicacy.
- The last starter I present to you is the eggplant pissaladière-style, obsiblue shrimp, grilled squid, and lardo di Colonnata (€19).
- For fish, we tasted the catch of the day (which is prepared according to the daily arrival, of course) and offered with a delicious sauce based on the cooking jus. The fish here are worked in an exceptional way, with a lot of raw preparation or just marinated from what I was able to taste.
- One of the house’s signature dishes, the grilled scallops, bottarga, celery, and watercress coulis (€35), are served almost raw, and the broth completes their cooking.
- For meat, I recommend you test the Pyrenean suckling lamb tasting with a piece of confit shoulder, roasted saddle with halloumi, a stuffed chard leaf, accompanied by a Volos olive jus (€39).
- For enthusiasts, you also have on the menu a dish around Bigorre and Iberian suckling pig, Kolokasse and celery, chorizo jus (€35).

Our 2020 Valentine’s Day dinner:
That evening we discovered the Valentine’s Day menu. For the occasion, Andréas Mavrommatis had designed a six-course meal, to which were added amuse-bouches and mignardises. For dessert, I recommend you test the restaurant’s specialty, the olive and basil chocolate, a Taïnori ganache with Kalamata olives with a chocolate and basil cream and an orange blossom ice cream. Otherwise, we also tested the seasonal dessert chestnuts and clementines, with a light cream and chestnut bits, marmalade, and fresh clementine with a spiced caramel coulis.
One of the great strengths of this gastronomic address also lies in its magnificent wine and spirits list. Indeed, the food and wine pairings we tested were done with exceptional Greek wines that we discovered, I must say, with much happiness! Once again, Mavrommatis reminded me to what extent Greek wine production can hide little gems, and what better Parisian ambassador than this starred restaurant that showcases Hellenic products so well.

Our 2025 lunch:
For a starter, we really liked the marinated sea bass with lemongrass tarama broth and Greek caviar. We also tasted the signature starter of chef Andréas with a revisited Greek salad, very successful. You find all the flavors of this typical Greek dish but deconstructed and with an amazing play of textures. We also really liked the farm-raised veal roasted with lemon leaves, perfectly cooked, served with artichoke. For dessert, we ended on a light note with the frozen parfait made with sheep’s milk yogurt, pink grapefruit confit, and ouzo jelly.

The Mavrommatis Passy restaurant: Osmossi
The Maison Mavrommatis also opened an address on the west side of Paris, in the Passy district, in 2017. On the ground floor of the boutique, there is a mezze counter for snacking at any time of the day, and on the first floor, there is a restaurant to discover Hellenic and Mediterranean specialties. In the basement, the cellar also offers multiple tastings to discover Greek wines. To learn more about this address, do not hesitate to look at my complete article on it (link below)!

The Laurier Mavrommatis restaurant
Installed in the heart of the Galeries Lafayette Champs Elysées, the Laurier restaurant is the latest addition to the Mavrommatis house. It offers Mediterranean and Hellenic cuisine, between tradition and modernity; everything served here is “homemade” and the menu, renewed regularly, focuses on seasonal products. Finally, with the exception of fresh products (meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables), all products used are of Greek origin! An opportunity, therefore, to find the know-how and quality of the Mavrommatis house for lunch with a magnificent view of the Champs-Elysées. The very chic decoration of the restaurant is the work of Régis Botta, an architect who has already signed the decoration of the starred restaurant Le Mavrommatis, which I mentioned a little earlier.
To taste: the traditional lamb moussaka (€22) which is delicious, the Cretan salad (€16.50), or the red tuna in ceviche (€22), and for dessert, do not miss the house specialty, the PDO Aegina pistachio macaron (€12), and then the very beautiful selection of Greek wines, of course!

The Les Délices d’Aphrodite restaurant
This restaurant is a “tavern” with a friendly atmosphere, like those that exist in Athens or Limassol on the island of Cyprus. It is also the first address opened by Andreas Mavrommatis in 1981 in Paris. A sunny and relaxed atmosphere, which makes you travel immediately to Greece! We tasted the chef’s moussaka, in a traditional version with lamb and veal (€24), but also in a vegetarian version with vegetables and feta (€24).

Mavrommatis Saint-Honoré Boutique
This address opened in 2025 brings together a catering service, a fine grocery store, a wine cellar, and a small, very nice dining area, all in an elegant setting inspired by the Mediterranean. I discovered it during its inauguration and I also had the chance to return for lunch one day. I particularly like the basement room which is dedicated to Mediterranean wines with its central high table and which can also serve as a tasting place.

Thessalia, Maison Mavrommatis
This address, located near Madeleine, is specialized in skewers “souvlaki“, cooked in a vertical rotisserie! I think this was almost the last address of the Maison Mavrommatis that I hadn’t yet had the opportunity to test. In any case, it’s the ideal place for a quick lunch with Hellenic and Mediterranean flavors. I particularly liked the layout of the place, and we were able to eat comfortably with my friend, since the restaurant has 2 rooms upstairs to enjoy this Greek street food.
The good point: the containers and packaging, whether for takeout or for eating on-site, are eco-responsible.

The Mavrommatis Wine Cellar
This cellar, which has existed since 2013, is dedicated to Greek grape varieties, and it is the first in Europe to offer a map of Greek viticulture. You can also taste there on-site around a sharing table with food and wine pairings with Mediterranean mezzés.
The good tip: the Cave Mavrommatis also organizes Greek wine tastings once a month in the presence of the winemakers concerned.

The Mavrommatis Catering Boutiques
The history of the Mavrommatis brothers is linked to that of grocery-caterers. It is indeed in these Parisian establishments that they made their debut. Then, in 1981, they acquired a boutique that they decided to supply with Greek products, which would become their fief in the fifth arrondissement.

My Greek discoveries
- La Mastiha: I discovered a rather sweet cocktail (even if in the end it is a bit “treacherous”, I prefer to warn you), based on mastiha liqueur. For the little explanation, mastiha is a natural resin extracted from the trunk and branches of the lentisk or mastiha tree. It is used in traditional therapy for various pathologies, but also in the cosmetics industry, in cooking, pastry making, and in the spirits industry.
- The Maison Metaxa is renowned throughout the world for its spirit that resembles no other. This Greek alcoholic beverage was created in 1888 by an Athenian merchant named Spyros Metaxa. It is produced from grape brandy distillates, Muscat wine from the Aegean islands aged, and a bouquet of rose petals and Mediterranean herbs. We find today several ranges (stars and reserve) in the creations of the Maison Metaxa.
