Les Fils à Maman restaurants

by Melle Bon Plan
Published: Updated:

Since the very beginning of my blog, I have been familiar with the restaurants of the Bonbonnière, established in Paris, Brussels, La Baule, Bordeaux, Rennes, Montpellier, and even Lyon (and many other places I’m forgetting to mention here).

I have already tested several addresses from this friendly family (some of which are unfortunately closed today), and today I am introducing two additional Parisian establishments from this cheerful group that I was recently invited to test: Les Fils à Maman and Le Clan des Jules.

The common thread of these addresses: regressive and nostalgic cooking, inspired by the wholesome food of our mothers.

Les Fils à Maman

Les Fils à Maman is ultimately the original address of this brand, which is now widely spread across France and abroad. The establishment is located in the 9th arrondissement, a little above the Grands Boulevards.

Must try:

  • As a starter, we did a little mix between 2 Babybel croquettes (€6) and 2 Camembert croquettes (€6) to taste a bit of both, and to my great surprise, it was finally the Babybel ones that I preferred… So it’s up to you to run the test and discover which you prefer!

Crispy fried cheese Diolez served in mini-baskets on a wooden board.

  • For the main course, I more than warmly recommend you to try the Père Doudou’s cordon bleu (€19), it will reconcile you for life with this canteen staple (which sometimes left us with mixed memories). It is served with a mushroom sauce and sautéed potatoes, I’m salivating just thinking about it…

Breaded cordon bleu, fries and salad on a wooden board.

  • Another dish, the pumpkin risotto with mushrooms, almonds, and honey-glazed duck tenders (€20), also very nice (even if I really have more of a soft spot for the cordon bleu!).

Grilled meat with slivered almonds on a bed of corn, dish from Les Fils à Maman.

  • For dessert, for the real foodies, the Kinder tiramisu (€9), super regressive!

  • We also tested the dessert of the day, a French toast-style brioche, also very indulgent.

The little extra: the very nice little terrace in front of the restaurant, which must be very pleasant in sunny weather.

Le Clan des Jules

This address is a hideout for bad boys with decor that plunges us back into the revisited Godfather myth. On the walls, Borsalinos, old gangster photos, all kinds of mirrors, candlelight, and old wooden bookcases filled with books taken from the attic set the tone.

Antique wood and metal sculpted pistol in front of old books.

Restaurant interior with wooden atmosphere and red benches, menu chalkboard.

I liked the comfortable bench and the old hits that lulled my adolescence playing in the background. And then, of course, as in all the Fils à Maman addresses, the TV showing old series and cartoons from my childhood in the restrooms—I’m still a fan!

Must try:

  • Their lovely menu of homemade cocktails (between €8 and €11) with, for example, the Mickey blue eyes (€9) or a classic Spritz (€9).

Asian starter: crispy fritter served in a white bowl.

  • Their very thin matchstick fries to accompany their burgers, for example.

Mini-burger and appetizers served on a white tray, restaurant atmosphere.

  • And then the little comforting thing to finish the dinner, the gourmet coffee (€9) or gourmet tea (€10) accompanied by a few sweets.

Assortment of desserts with madeleine, verrine, and whipped cream, candlelight.
